Music Director Wanted!
Music Director Wanted - The Elizabethan Syngers
"Evoking the Past. Entertaining the Future."
The Elizabethan Syngers seek a permanent Music Director to start Spring 2023.
The Elizabethan Syngers is a semi-professional, early music, a cappella choral group that was established in 1971 and is comprised of approximately 35 adult male and female auditioned singers (SSATB). The group performs secular and religious music of the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries in period costumes with theatrics in various performances (July-October) including the Minnesota Renaissance Festival. Members also participate in a holiday season (November and December) featuring Renaissance and traditional holiday repertoire and in various off-season community appearances (January-June). Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings and typically run from mid-May through mid-August with a short break and resume in October through the first few weeks in December or as needed. Salary is commensurate with experience, skills and revenue. This position could lead to an Artistic Director role for the right candidate.
Responsibilities include planning and leading rehearsals, auditioning new members, working with the group’s committees/board to select music and schedule performances and creating a repertoire memorization schedule.
It is preferable that candidates have an advanced degree in music and or musical theater/theater. An interest in and or experience performing early music is a must. Candidates must have experience directing adults in preparation for a concert or a theatrical production.
The Elizabethan Syngers is a volunteer, non-profit 501(c)(3) that is board run. Its director must strike a successful balance between providing a fun rehearsal/performance environment and pushing the group to excel.
