HELENE: Late 20s- early 30s. Confident and independent. Travels the country as a temporary telephone company customer service representative. Outgoing and friendly, yet ultimately lonely. Legit soprano with a strong lower range.
HARRY: Late 20s- early 30s. The troupe’s “secret weapon”. He’s the best actor in the universe. Truly. When in character, he’s able to transform himself as well as those around him. On stage he’s a charismatic powerhouse. Off stage, he’s almost paralyzed with shyness. High Baritone/Tenor.
CHARLIE: 30s-40s. School custodian. A well-read, self-educated man with a mysterious past. He keeps to himself until he’s lured into directing the troupe’s next production. High Baritone/Tenor.
LYDIA: 30s-40s. School librarian and the troupe’s dramaturg. Precise, organized and efficient. And, maybe a teensy bit bitter. Mezzo, with a strong belt.
DORIS: 60s-70s. Owner of the local hardware store, and matriarch of the theater company. She has directed every play for the company for the past twenty years. No nonsense. Wise and wise-cracking. She's seen it all. Her sarcastic demeanor conceals a warm heart. Mezzo.
