The Pathetic Life and Remarkable Afterlife of Elmer McCurdy, the Worst Train Robber in the West
nimbus will hold auditions for its spring 2019 show on January 6 & 7, 2019.
Sunday, January 6: 1 - 5pm
Monday, January 7: 7 - 10pm
Callbacks - Thursday, January 10: 7pm
The Pathetic Life and Remarkable Afterlife of Elmer McCurdy, the Worst Train Robber in the West will be a new play, written by nimbus co-Artistic Director Josh Cragun and directed by Liz Neerland. Inspired by true events, this comedy will follow the exploits - in life and death - of one bumbling idiot named Elmer McCurdy. History and tall tales will slam together into a madcap journey of bandits, mummies, and traveling carnivals. In this story, the truth truly is stranger than fiction.
An ensemble-based work, the play will be built around an group of actors who will work together to shape the narrative and the characters in it. The work of the ensemble will be partly grounded in historical research about the wild west, and partly based on developing a fun story grounded in devised theater technique.
This is an ensemble production, and we will be building the show around the actors, not the other way around. That said, we do know that we will want an ensemble of 7 to 10 actors, that we want a wide range in age, that all roles will be for adults, and that we insist upon ethnic and gender diversity in all of our shows.
