Locally Grown Theatre is looking for teaching artists and teaching assistants for our upcoming MEA break camps. Our camp descriptions are below:

Strega Nona: Creating a Story

In this camp, express your creativity and explore storytelling and character building to devise your own play inspired by the classic children’s book “Strega Nona” by Tomie dePaola. What will your magic pot do? Students will be able to show their play to their family on the last day of camp. (This camp does not include a full length production)

GRADES: 2-4

WHEN: Thursday October 20 - Saturday October 22, 9:00am - 4:00pm

Into the Universe: Creative Play

Be introduced to theatre by using your imagination to explore outer space! What will you find there? Aliens, new planets, stars? In this camp, students will learn theatre games, create visual art, and foster their creativity. (This camp does not include a production for friends and family). 

GRADES: K-1

WHEN: Thursday October 20 - Saturday October 22, 9:00am- 3:00pm

 

Teaching Artist Responsibilities and skills: 

  • Facilitate class curriculum and parent showcase if needed
  • Assist with the development of the curriculum
  • Artistic background
  • 1-2 years Teaching artist experience preferred, creative play and devising is a plus
  • Excellent group facilitation and communication skills
  • Ability to work and collaborate with your assistant
  • Age 18+
  • Must pass background check
  • Stipend: flat rate of $250 plus a percentage of registration fees (in the past this has come out to $20-$40 an hour)

Teaching Assistant Responsibilities and Skills:

  • Assist teaching artist with group activities
  • Assist with classroom management
  • Check students in and out of camp
  • Run lunch hour  supervision and games with other teaching assistants
  • No teaching experience needed
  • Interest in working with children
  • Age 16+
  • Must pass background check if 18+
  • Stipend: flat rate of $200 plus a percentage of registration fees (in the past this has come out to $15-$25 an hour)
