Rosetown Playhouse Hiring Choreographer & Costumer for Summer 2023 Production of Music Man!
Rosetown Playhouse is seeking to hire key production staff for its 2023 summer production, MUSIC MAN. Rosetown Playhouse is a committed to uplifting Black, Indigenous, People of Color, those of all abilities, and people in the LGBTQIA+ community. Rosetown Playhouse is dedicated to building community & creating theater though quality productions. Ideal staff will be "outside the box" thinkers who are good collaborators and are also willing to work with a LARGE intergenerational cast. The average cast size for our summer show is 80-115 people.
Important Dates:
Auditions and rehearsals will begin in May. Performances at the scenic Como Pavilion run July 13-16 and 21-23.
We will be hiring for the following positions:
- Costumer
- Choreographer

COSTUMER
Stipend - $1,000 - $1,200
The costumer is responsible for the artistic costuming vision of the show. This person has the unique opportunity of using existing inventory, creating new pieces, and helping cast members find some basic pieces for their costume.
General Production Team Member Responsibilities
- Attend weekly production meetings (scheduled based on availability).
- Communicate with production team members via email and in person.
- Willingness to adapt to changing needs throughout rehearsal process.
Costumer Responsibilities
- Works collaboratively with the director to create a costume vision for the show.
- Uses Rosetown Playhouse costume inventory when possible and keeps record of where the costumes are stored.
- Works with volunteers to build costumes and alter costumes.
- Communicates with cast (with assistance from stage manager) about their costume responsibilities (in written and verbal form), assists with acquiring items if needed, and checks all cast members for these items by the deadline on the production calendar.
- Assists by assembling necessary costumes for publicity photos early in the rehearsal process.
- Keeps a record of who costumes are assigned to.
- Attends dress rehearsals to make adjustments and repairs/alterations as needed and is available for repair during the run.
- Collects and checks in all costumes at end of run, coordinates volunteers for washing/cleaning (in collaboration with production manager) and returns all costumes to their original storage location.
- Turns in a list of any new costumes built for this show and leaves them on the rack to be added to the inventory.
- Stays within allocated costume budgets; communicates with production manager about any budgetary concerns.
CHOREOGRAPHER
Stipend - $1,800 - $2,000
The choreographer is responsible for creating all dancing and movement used in the production. This person has the unique opportunity to work with both smaller groups of skilled/experienced dancers and large groups (100+) of dancers with a wider range of abilities. The person who takes on this role should have excellent communication skills, creativity, and a desire to collaborate.

- Willingness to adapt to changing needs throughout rehearsal process.
Auditions & Rehearsal Responsibilities
- Works collaboratively with the director and music director to integrate dance numbers and large group ensemble movement into the scenes.
- Attends auditions, teaching a short section of choreography and assessing auditioners’ dance skills.
- Attend required rehearsals and all tech week rehearsals.
- Attend final rehearsal at Como (afternoon of opening night).
- Provide written choreography notes for large dance numbers.
- Teach all dances at scheduled “dance” rehearsals on the cast rehearsal calendar.
- Work with all cast members (with various levels of dance experience and ability) to help them be at their best.
- Help keep cast members on track at rehearsals in positive and effective ways.
