Skylark Opera Theatre is accepting applications NOW for a new Artistic Director beginning in 2023. This is designed as a part time, independent contractor position. Budgeted compensation for the position is $500.00 per month. The Artistic Director may also have opportunities to stage or music direct our main stage productions. Compensation for the main stage productions is paid separately; commensurate with experience and the scope of the project.

Skylark Opera Theatre’s mission is to provide Minnesota audiences with the highest artistic quality, accessible performances of opera and music theater while highlighting and developing the finest local and regional talent. Skylark is in the early stages of preparing to present several previously-announced productions in 2023:

- “Three Decembers” in Spring 2023

•           Venue: Jungle Theater; Budget: $40K

•           Six performances covering May 12-14 and May 19-21

   •           Stage Director: Gary Briggle

               Music Director: Carson Rose Schneider

- “Marry Me a Little” in Fall 2023

  • Venue and dates TBD
  • Estimating $40K budget and 6 performances
  • Stage Director & Music Director TBD
  • “Skylark for Seniors” Program
  • Up to 12 live performances at Twin Cities senior residences

Working in collaboration with the Skylark Opera Theatre Board of Directors, the Artistic Director oversees artistic operations directly related to Skylark Opera Theatre productions and programs and plans and manages their budgets. The Artistic director plans repertoire for major productions, oversees auditions and the selection of singing artists, conductors, instrumentalists, directors and other creatives to meet Skylark Opera Theatre’s mission.

The search process will include selected phone/virtual ZOOM interviews with the Skylark search committee. If invited to interview, the candidate will be asked to provide relevant references and a letter (or letters) of recommendation from a professional theater source, and to outline choices of repertoire to implement the mission of Skylark Opera Theatre (together with estimated budgets for a season of two offerings).
