'Spring Awakening' is a Tony, Drama Desk and Grammy Award winning musical with music by Duncan Sheik and libretto/lyrics by Steven Sater. This rock musical champions the story of teenagers struggling against inherited societal impositions of sex and sexuality, gender, and adulthood. 'Spring Awakening' is loosely adapted from 'Frühlings Erwachen/Spring Awakening: A Children's Tragedy' by Frank Wedekind, a 1906 play with a complicated history of censorship.
This production will embrace a streamlined, theatrical style, and underline its relevance in modern America. Dependent on the cast's abilities, the artistic team is hoping to utilize actor-instrumentation as part of their approach. (Not all cast members will be required to play instruments; non-instrument playing actors are strongly encouraged to audition.) Actors with experience in both musical theatre and devised work are encouraged to apply.
THEA: My uncle says if you don't discipline a child, you don't love it.
MARTHA: That must be.
ANNA: When I have children, I'll let them be free. And they'll grow strong and tall.
THEA: But how will we know what to do if our parents don't tell us?
