Wonderlust Productions commissioned 10 talented, local playwrights to write 10-15 minute plays that imagine what the future could look like if we learned from this last year.
We organized a speculative fiction workshop for the writers with an Afrofuturist novelist and a story circle and interviews with experts across lots of fields, asking them to predict the future in their sector. Now we're ready to produce these weird, wonderful scripts with a cast of 17 diverse actors, each playing roles in two plays.
We are seeking two actors to complete this cast: female-identifying, any ethnicity. Both parts need to sing. One needs to play under 30 years old, the other can be any age. AEA or non-AEA welcome.
You must be available for the schedule below.
Please send us your RESUME and a link to a VIDEO AUDITION with a contemporary monologue and a few bars of song. (If you have difficulty with uploading video and sending a link, let us know.) Please send it to [email protected] by Monday, July 26 noon!
Katie Ka Vang, Kira Obolensky, Antonio Duke, John Heimbuch, JuCoby Johnson, Alan Berks, Alayna Jacqueline, Becky Dale, Oogie_Push, and Leah Cooper.
We've divided the 10 plays into 2 lineups of five shows each to be performed in alternating sequence, 3:30 and 6:30, Saturday and Sunday, the weekends of 9/4 and 9/12.
We're casting actors in two short plays each that will be performed in the same lineup. All activities will be outdoors with a fully vaccinated cast and crew and distanced audience.
Timing commitment for being in two short plays looks like this:
Four rehearsals of two hours each for each short script over the next five weeks (16 hours total).
September - tech evening of 9/2 or 9/3
Performances alternating afternoons and evenings, Saturdays and Sundays, 9/4 - 9/12.
Based on an AEA contract (which we'll use to pay everyone regardless of whether they are in the union or not), we'll be paying $16/hr for workshops and rehearsals (approx. 18 hours total) , and $85 per performance (4 performances total).
All of the pieces will be co-directed by the playwright and Leah Cooper or Alan Berks (Wonderlust Co-Artistic Directors). Every actor is being double cast and the cast is a diverse mix of AEA and non AEA, including Wonderlust ensemble members.
