Youth Theater Mentors at Lyric Arts Main Street Stage

Lyric Arts Seeks Design Mentors, SM Mentor, and Technical Director for Youth Ensemble Summer production

The Lyric Arts Youth Theater Ensemble (LAYTE) is seeking mentors for its upcoming summer production. Stipend is between $1000 and $2000 based on position.  We are seeking mentors in the following disciplines:

  • Technical Director/Scene Design
  • Costume Design
  • Lighting Design
  • Sound Design
  • Stage Management

Now in it's third year, L.A.Y.T.E. is a youth ensemble of multi-disciplined theater artists, aged 14 to 20, that select and produce a fully realized summer production that will run August 16-19, 2018. After producing Still Life With Iris and Peter/Wendy in its first two years, the ensemble will embark on creating an original work for this summer.

The role of a L.A.Y.T.E. Mentor is as a professional theater artist that mentors and guides individuals within the ensemble who have a desire in a theater discipline instead of, or in addition to, performance. Many members will be returning and will have had experience in at least one element of design. The overall goal each year is for the ensemble to produce, promote, design, and perform their production and to help foster the next generation of multi-talented theater artists. Based on the Lookingglass model of theater making, this group of talented artists work to collaborate together to create a production.

Under the producing arm of Lyric Arts and Education Director/Artistic Director of L.A.Y.T.E., Adrian Lopez-Balbontin, the commitment as a Mentor to the ensemble is similar to a design process with a professional company with a minimal additional time commitment to mentoring/supervising a few members of the ensemble in their respective discipline.

To schedule an interview please email resume and cover letter to Adrian Lopez-Balbontin at [email protected]. Educational experience is preferred but not necessary.
