I didn’t make it to the Iveys. I was ready to go that fateful Monday night: a classy suit, a beautiful date, freshly polished shoes, swagger. However, I had something else, something inside me—either the greasy chicken wings from the night before or a nasty touch of the flu rendered me pale, clammy, shivering, explosive, and basically incapable of putting on that classy suit. In the words of my date, as I struggled to lift myself from the couch and over to my wardrobe, adamant on getting spruced up: “You’re not going anywhere.” What if it had been more than a bug? A super-bug? Appendicitis? Would I be prepared to go to the hospital? Do I even have insurance? Not counting the short time when I was ten and my mom worked at a State Farm agency and made me tag along during the summer to read my comic books and baseball magazines in air-conditioning, I know nothing about insurance. It’s best to be prepared, whether it’s the flu or a fractured limb or worse. Shouldn't I have insurance for that? I don’t know. But I know who can help! While monstrously confusing, I’ve read page after page of insurance information on the Fractured Atlas website. From what I gather, Fractured Atlas helps members find lower prices and better deals on insurance, they offer artistic liability insurance (i.e., in case your set burns down, knock on wood), and they do it all exclusively for people in the arts. The good news is that access to Fractured Atlas won’t cost an arm and a leg. In fact, if you’re a member of Minnesota Playlist, you get free membership—which means free access to those lower prices and better deals on insurance (and all sorts of other stuff besides insurance, but I’ll leave that a mystery for you to browse yourself).
