FTL Week 6: Classic Play Edition #2

Editorial

Segue Production continues its strong run of victories with another high rank this week. The all African-American version of Arthur Miller's classic play directed by Lou Bellamy comes in a strong second, .2 percentage points a head of the potentially jittery, edgy production of All My Sons starring ex-Juene Luner Steve Epp and directed by Dominique Serrand.

We like to draw meaning from the evidence of people's votes. In this case, we only know that a) More people are voting and B) People have a variety of tastes. We're pleased with both those conclusions, so we decided to have another Classic Play Round.

The Agamemnon

This week's classic play goes all the way back to the beginning of Western drama, Aeschylus's Oresteia.

How would you cast the first play in the trilogy, Agamemnon? Agamemnon is the king who lead the Greeks into battle in the Trojan War. After ten years, he returns home to his wife Clytemnestra, who has been running the country in his absence--and also sleeping with Agamemnon's cousin Aegisthus (who wants to overthrow Agamemnon for his own, kind of sickening reasons). Agamemnon, hoping for a hero's welcome, brings Cassandra home with him from Troy as a concubine/war prize.

Things do not go well.

Who would you draft to play Agamemnon the king, Clytemnestra the queen, Aegisthus the lover, and Cassandra the slave/or the Watchman (who introduces the play with the message of Agamemnon's return)? Pick a director or designer. See below for examples.

Voting will begin on Monday, November 7.
