As I'm gettin ready for the MN Fringe festival this weekend, I'm also gettin ready for a few other events. First one, an amazing art exhibit by Kao Lee Thao opening on Saturday night at Cause Spirits and Sound Bar with her Lyrical Presence Vinyl Record Collection, if you've never seen her work, you're missin out! Peep it here, http://www.facebook.com/pages/Inner-Swirl/78492487849. The other event is the APIA (Asian Pacific Islander American) Spoken word Summit being held here in MN!!!! For the first time Minnesota is hosting the summit! There is a team of local Asian American artists and community members that have been working tirelessly to put this summit together! And the team is headed by none other Bao Phi Nguyen the spoken word artist and community organizer! What a great way to kick start the Fringe eh?! (There is only one performance open to the public on Saturday evening at MacPhail.) But holy shiznits, it's gonna be bombdiggity!! Theme for the summit: Moving It Forward, Bringing It Back. I'm looking forward to interacting with some of the first generation Asian American artists who continue to help us hold down the scene like Brenda Wong Aoki, David Mura, Joe Kadi, and Lawson Fusao. In addition to some younger organizers and poets like Chilli (Chia) Lor, Kevin Yang. It's GOOOOOOOD to be Asian American yall... yes it is! Good night and I hope to see some of you around. Pace!
