A fine how do you do -------- The Beautiful Refrigerator is Empty By No Face Performance Group "The Beautiful Refrigerator is Empty" is a show playing at the Bryant Lake Bowl on July 22nd and 23rd. No Face Performance Group is a Philadelphia-based ensemble dedicated to creating new works that they say defies genre. I honestly don't know much about the group but the description of the show is about something taking teen angst and including dark humor, disappearances, potential murder, and prom. That sounds either delightful or delightfully unpleasant. Maybe worth a look? -------- NewBridge Theatre Company holding auditions! A brand new Minnesota theater company out of Hastings is seeking company members who have an interest repertory work as well as professional development as an artist. Let them know if you'd like to be a part of what they're putting together. -------- Porch View Dances Kaeja d'Dance, a Toronto contemporary dance company, is presenting a series of pop-up pay-what-you-can performances created to be viewed from city porches. The goal is to bring the dance to the community and to do some community building in the process. One cool aspect mentioned by the creators, “Though professional choreographers created the individual dance works, the initiative features performances by residents in the neighbourhood — most with no dance experience. The dances themselves are also inspired by the lives of each family.” Perhaps this is something Minnesota dancers and performers can take inspiration from? -------- A Place to Experiment Playwright Sarah Ruhl writes about why her work, “Melancholy Play,” is not being made available for review. In the New York Times piece she writes about redefining success, “success, in this case, I think, is simply getting the play up. Heaving it up, throwing it up, seeing the thing, rather than trying to perfect it with months of development or previews. I felt like closing the play to reviews was in that spirit of simply seeing what the thing was and offering it up with some good will to the audience.” Reviewers are, of course, welcome to purchase regular tickets and write about the show if they choose. But Ruhl says she wanted to make something that exists outside the cycle of need between artist and critic. Sounds like an interesting proposition. -------- Roseville Area High is looking for a technical director If you've got the skills to design sets, lights, and sounds and an interest in teaching young potential theater artists as well as the desire to build relationships within and amongst high school theater why not do it in Roseville? -------- Local actor Sam Landman just posted something fun on his Regret-A-Day blog. It's all about the hard work and absurd fun of theater summer camp that is Theatre L'Homme Dieu. Definitely worth a few minutes read. -------- Alright, there's a few items. I hope you have rip-roaring good end of July. -Levi
