I'm not performing 08/03/2013 - 12:14am

nobody i know has much good to say about the Fringe. Not like people are hating on the Fringe, but I'm trying to go to my artist homies and get their picks for what to check out, and everyone is being mad bogus. One true artiste friend of mine runs down who from the dance community is doing something in the Fringe with a big sigh. 'Lot of first time producers" she sez, but we both agree that Tamara Ober makes a good show. Turns out that the piece I thought looked like dance but wasn't listed as dance is Tamara's co-creation. OK, slam dunk! My other homie just shakes his head. We are both wrapped up in our work right now so it really boils down to supporting those who support us. And I guess nobody supported him cuz he's not going to any Fringe shows. I'm for sure checking out Karen Charles' Threads Dance at the Southern - A Woman's Works features Aneka McMullen, a dancer I have been getting down with since school days at North High. I'm still waiting on a return email from from my journalist homegirl about what she's checking for. My filmmaker friend, my mom and dad, my company members, nobody is burning up about seeing shows in the Fringe. 'I know somebody in it, but I don't know what they're in," sez my college age dance student. Hm. Normally I would say it's cultural, but the sampling I described is a rainbow coalition. So what's the deal? Why the disconnect? I gotta see some shows, hang out a little and see what's up.

I'm not performing: I'm new to writing for other people to see. Much of what I send out to people in the past has been of the "Hey, come to this. Hey, see me in this" type, but this year, I'm not performing as a dancer on stage. So I want to flip that right away. I won't be playing to the audience this year, on stage or on this blog.
