Biography

Momoko Tanno has performed with major theaters in the Twin Cities and nationally, in productions such as M. Butterfly at the Guthrie Theater, Figaro (Susanna), Don Juan Giovanni (Donna Anna) and Carmen (Frasquita) with Theatre de la Jeune Lune, American Repertory Theatre, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, and Pacific Overtures and A Little Night Music with Mu Performing Arts.

 

Tanno started singing in a rock band in high school in Tokyo, and she is also at home singing the Great American Songbook repertoire. Tanno received her BA from Nihon University in Tokyo, and MM from the University of Minnesota in vocal performance. She is a faculty member at MacPhail Center for Music and a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS).

 

As a concert artist, she has performed with Minnesota Orchestra in a Benefit Concert for Japan, Bach Society of Minnesota, Heinrich Schütz-Chor, Tokyo, and Heinrich Schütz-Chor, Heilbronn. She is a faculty member at MacPhail Center for Music in Minneapolis, and released a CD Kono Michi -Japanese Songs arranged by Gregory Theisen made possible by the MacPhail Artist Grant through the McKnight Foundation. Recipient of 2013 Minnesota State Arts Board Artist Initiative Grant, Momoko performed in the reading of the opera Yukionna with Nautilus Music-Theater, and with the 2015 Minnesota State Arts Board Cultural Community Partnership Grant, she collaborated with In the Heart of the Beast Puppet Theater on a new play about artist Taro Yashima in “The Story of Crow Boy”.
