INSIDE / OUT FESTIVAL

A multidisciplinary festival blurring the lines between ‘inside’ and ‘outside

Minneapolis, MN When preparing to see a show, one can easily imagine how the evening will go: pick up tickets at the box office, find a seat in the dark theater, and sit quietly while the performers put on a show. The all-new Inside / Out Festival at Intermedia Arts (September 22-25) flips these expectations.

A multidisciplinary festival dubbed a “radical experiment” by the Intermedia Arts’ curator, the Inside / Out Festival seeks to test, redefine, and innovate the use of space, performative technique and the role of the audience. To conduct this experiment, Twin Cities artists are invited to present film, performance, visual art, and musical work that pushes boundaries of space, genre, and artist-audience interaction. With a lineup featuring artists such as Eric F. Avery, J. Otis Powell‽ , Davu Seru, Donald Washington, Ellen Hinchcliffe, and co-presenting organizations including RARE Productions and Tru Ruts, this four-day festival promises to engage audiences in new and exciting ways beyond the fourth (or even fifth) wall.

In addition to experimenting with space and time we are also creating wider access in offering this festival across a sliding scale. These tests are exciting and will help us answer questions around how we can continue to push and redefine the boundaries. Sha Cage (Catalyst Curator)
