Biography

Jay Owen Eisenberg is a Minneapolis-based actor, educator, director, and facilitator. Before landing in the upper Midwest, he was based in Los Angeles and New York City from 2008 to 2015. Jay’s dual backgrounds in sex education and the arts have supported him in designing and implementing dynamic, inclusive, and radical curriculum in Health and Wellness for young performers age 10 through 25. He teaches with the University of Minnesota, Saint Paul Conservatory for Performing Arts, Penumbra Theater, Children’s Theatre Company, the Performing Institute of Minnesota, and the Walker Art Center, among others.

Jay earned his BFA in acting from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts (Experimental Theater Wing). Since then, he has worked as a professional actor in film (Amazon Studios, Magnolia Pictures), television (ABC, Showtime), and theaters as large as Radio City Music Hall and as small as your living room. Here in the Twin Cities, Jay has performed at regionally and nationally acclaimed theaters such as Penumbra Theater, the Jungle Theater, Theater Latte Da, Pillsbury House + Theatre, Mixed Blood Theater, Open Eye Figure Theater, Red Eye Theater, and more.

Jay was one of the first openly transgender actors to become a member of Actors’ Equity Association.
