Announcing auditions & production staff/designer positions for 20% Theatre Company’s regional premiere of "UNKNOWN" by Alexis Clements, directed by Mariah Larkin.
Auditions: Cold readings of sides by appointment in 30-minute slots: Thursday 5/16 from 6-9pm and Saturday 5/18 from 10am-1pm at the Phoenix Theater, 2605 Hennepin Avenue S, Minneapolis. Callbacks: Sunday 5/19, time TBD.
Rehearsals: Begin mid-August, location TBD. Our goal is weeknights - not everyone will be needed at every rehearsal, and some weekends might be necessary. There may be a couple weeks off in early September. Schedule will depend on actor availability.
Production Run: October 18-27, 2019 at The Crane Theater in NE Minneapolis.
The Play: Inspired by the 40-year-old Lesbian Herstory Archives in Brooklyn, NY, Unknown, offers a portrait of a small community of lesbians that spans four generations, and it asks how we come to know a person as something more than the role they play in our lives or the labels society applies to them.
Characters & Descriptions:
Sydney - (60-80 yrs) An Italian-American woman. A bit of a recluse for good reason. Cautious.
Sophie - (26-30 yrs) A white woman. Avoidant. A stressed-out student.
Thea - (15-17 yrs) An African-American teenager. Passionate.
Popcorn - (35-40 yrs) An African-American woman. The keeper of the archives.
Imari - (26-30 yrs) A mixed-race (Asian & Latinx) woman. Sophie’s sometimes partner.
Beverly/Volunteer - (50-60 yrs) A Native American woman. A social worker.
20% Theatre strongly encourages disabled artists and trans/non-binary artists to audition for any role.
Payment: The stipend for all actors is $300, payable following the final performance & strike on October 27.
