Orthogonal Productions is hosting auditions for “Cabaret” which will be performed at the Gremlin Theater in St. Paul in February of 2024.

This show does contain themes and segments of sexuality, antisemitism, anti-LGBTQ+, female autonomy, and political discourse and actors should be prepared to discuss and portray these things in the show. We know that emotions can run high when broaching these sensitive topics but believe these moments in the show are important to portraying the piece with historical accuracy. We will be putting forth painstaking efforts to make this a safe and empathetic environment for all of the members of our team, cast, and crew and will be taking a significant portion of rehearsals to tackle these subjects and make sure we are all on the same page every step of the way.

TO AUDITION: please bring your headshot and resume and prepare a 1-2 minute monologue (something you are familiar with that showcases you and your talent) and the final verse of the song “Cabaret” from the show (Sheet music will be emailed out). There is a higher and lower key attached to accommodate multiple voice types. We will email out a link to piano accompaniments to candidates through the Sign Up Genius for people to prepare.

Auditions are:

Sunday September 24th from 4:00pm to 9:00pm

Thursday September 28th from 6:00pm-9:30pm

And will be held at the Phoenix Theater in Uptown located at:

2605 Hennepin Ave

Minneapolis, MN 55408

Auditions are by appointment and you can sign up for a time slot here:

We will accept walk-in auditions, but you are subject to the schedule and may be required to wait based on availability. If the schedule is booked, we may be unable to take walk-ins.

Callbacks will be held Sunday October 1st from 5pm to approximately 10pm.

REHEARSALS:

Rehearsals begin October 23rd and will be held Monday through Thursday with a floating TBD Friday from 6:30pm to 10:00pm. They will be held at The Phoenix Theater in Uptown and the Director's home also in Minneapolis.

Note: Fridays will be a TBD rehearsal and calls will be sent out Thursday after rehearsal. To clarify, our intention is to NOT have rehearsals on Fridays, but we will be making the call on a week by week basis based on the state of the show and where the artistic team and the cast feel we are at. We respect the time of our people and we don’t like to take people’s time when we don’t need to.

We have two blocks of rehearsals outlined here:

Rehearsal block one starts October 23rd and will adjourn December 8th.

There is a potential to adjourn this block a week or so early if everyone feels we are in a good place. This rehearsal block will involve table and character work, music, choreography and some basic blocking. The intention is to get the bones on the show and then adjourn for the month of December so we can be with our friends and families during the holiday season and give the actors time to memorize and get the show, music and movement into their bodies. The artistic team will be holding “Office Hours” during this break and will be available by appointment to cast and crew as necessary.

No appointments will be held from December 22nd to January 2nd in order to give the Artistic team time off for the Holidays.

Block 2 of Rehearsals:

Rehearsals will resume Wednesday January 3rd with 3 days of brush ups, followed by a week of blocking and structuring, followed by runs and work rehearsals through tech week. Again we plan on rehearsing Monday through Thursday with TBD Fridays.

Tech begins February 11th or 12th depending on when we can move into the theater and we reserve the right to hold actors til 11:30pm as necessary during tech (We rarely have to go this late and in past productions have only stayed past 11 by actor request for small pieces).

Show Schedule:

Opening Friday February 16th 7:30pm

Show Saturday February 17th 7:30pm

POSSIBLE MATINEE Sunday February 18th (We are still debating this)

Show Wednesday February 21st 7:30pm

Show Thursday February 22nd 7:30pm

Show Friday February 23rd 7:30pm

Show Saturday February 24th 7:30pm

Strike Sunday February 25th 7:30pm

CONFLICTS:

Conflicts must be submitted no later than the first Friday of each rehearsal block (October 27th and January 5th).

Conflicts for tech week and shows will not be accepted.
