Description

Stravinsky's "Histoire du soldat" (Soldier's Tale), written in 1918, is the story of a soldier on leave from war who makes a deal with a mysterious figure who turns out to be the devil. Bad things happen.

Run time for the entire show is about 1 hour. The four-member cast will act and dance to music from a seven-member ensemble. The music is spectacular (and famous), and we're looking for four cast members who can bring a high level of quality to the staged presentation.

Performance & Rehearsal Dates

Performances: February 21 and 22, 2025 @ 7:30 p.m., and February 23, 2025 @ 2 p.m.

Rehearsals: Monday-Friday nights (6:30-9:30 or 7-10) beginning January 27, 2025. Rehearsal times can be somewhat flexible. There will be nights when not all cast members need to be present. Rehearsals for dance and for acting may be held at separate venues, but each night's rehearsal will be held at only one venue. Tech week, which begins February 17, will be held at the performance venue: 480 Arts in Saint Paul.

Auditions

We will be asking for video submissions at first, then, if necessary, in-person auditions later.

Please prepare up to 4 videos (each up to 1 minute) showing your dancing and acting abilities. Each video could focus on one area of your abilities (for instance, dance but not acting, or vice versa) or on a combination of them. We'd like to see the full range of your abilities in each area. Acting auditions do not need to be monologues; dance pieces do not need to be solo dances.

Note: the Princess is a non-speaking role. To audition for this role, submit dance videos only, and indicate this when submitting materials.

Submitting audition videos: Submit your response to [email protected]. You may 1) provide links to videos on your website or video archive; 2) email videos directly to [email protected].

Please submit a CV/resume and a head-shot with your videos.

Characters

Narrator: 30 or older. Will not be given difficult dance assignment, but movement experience a plus. Acting abilities would be more important.

Devil: Similar in age to Narrator. Appears in 9 scenes, 3 of which require strong movement.

Princess: Similar in age to Soldier. Non-speaking role. Appears in 7 scenes and has 6 dances (3 in one scene). Proficient dance background preferred.
