The Elizabethan Syngers: Evoking the Past. Entertaining the Future.
Are you looking for an exciting singing opportunity this fall? Do you love the idea of singing Renaissance music? The Elizabethan Syngers might be the perfect choral group for you! Our 2023 Holiday Renaissance season is just around the corner and we are holding auditions for all sections: sopranos, altos, tenors and basses!
The Elizabethan Syngers is an early music, a cappella choral arts organization of volunteer singers dedicated to preserving, promoting, and performing music of and inspired by the Renaissance era. We are seeking confident performers who sing with imagination and have an affinity for theatrical presentation. Strong basic musicianship and mature vocal skills are required. Candidates must be capable and comfortable in a fast-paced learning environment and must be willing to commit the necessary personal time to be prepared for rehearsals and performances.
The audition process includes Rhythmic Sight Singing, Melodic Sight Singing, Aural Recall and Harmonic Acuity. The candidate will sing without accompaniment any song of his or her choosing (such as a hymn or other familiar song). The audition will be approximately 20 minutes in duration.
Founded in 1971, the Elizabethan Syngers is the longest-running musical act at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival (see us at: www.theelizabethansyngers.com www.facebook.com/elizabethansyngers). The active performance season runs from October through December culminating with a festive Christmas concert in December. On-demand caroling performances may be scheduled as opportunities arise. Rehearsals take place on Tuesday evenings at 6:30-9:00 p.m. during the performance season.
There are no membership fees or dues associated with The Elizabethan Syngers. However, all singers are required to procure an approved Renaissance costume. It may be rented from the organization’s extensive collection at a flat fee of $70 or purchased independently. The Elizabethan Syngers’ costume coordinator, in accordance with Minnesota Renaissance Festival standards, must approve all costumes.
