ABOUT THE PLAY, CASTING, and RATES

THEY WEAR TEAL RIBBONS AROUND THEIR TONGUES by Siddeeqah Shabazz

Meet the Douglasses! Your favorite 90s sitcom family. Loving. Hilarious. Affluent. Respected. Nothing can shake them…until a dark and well-kept secret is unearthed. When the facade breaks, it will take all of their strength to discover who they really are…and who they want to become.

CASTING

4 roles to be cast:

  • Lena Douglass: Mid-Late 40’s/Early 50’s. Mother. African American. She met her husband in college. Both graduated but she became a housewife while her husband pursued his education and career. She is the kind of person that as long as she doesn't see it, it didn't happen.
  • Charles Douglass: Early 50s. Father. African American. He is a doctor and a distinguished pillar of the community. Everyone holds him in the highest regard.
  • Sharice Douglass: Early 20s. Daughter. African American. She has substance abuse issues that no one seems to understand why. She was raised in an upper middle class home and received all the same comforts as her siblings, yet she is the one that has thrown her life away.
  • Alex: Camera/Warm Up Person. Any age, any gender or non-gender. African American. Must have great banter, improv skills, and very personable. Think stand up comedian and they are allowed to banter with the audience.

PAY RATE

Pay Range for non-Equity roles: $1,000 - $1,600.

Equity actors will be paid at appropriate Equity rates.
