When Trothe Pepperston, a young maiden who has never touched a sword, learns she must defend her inheritance in a duel, she must contend with her milksop lover, a pair of wily servants, a Prussian fencing master, a stodgy old lawyer, and her domineering aunt to save her house and lands. Trothe Pepperston: (Presents 18-25, any race/ethnicity, feminine presenting.)

Penelope: (Presents 30+, any race/ethnicity, feminine presenting.)
Trothe's favorite servant, a lifelong resident of Pepperston Hall. Quite clever. Can even do sums. Lower class British dialect

Tilly: (Presents 20-30, any race/ethnicity, feminine presenting.)
Trothe's second favorite servant, who holds her own in a fight. Lower class British dialect

Duchess Theodosia Pepperston: (Presents 40+, any race/ethnicity, feminine presenting.)
Trothe's aunt. The finest blade in the land, sharp and stern in her demeanor. Upper class British dialect

Osric: (Presents 20-25, any race/ethnicity, masculine presenting.)
Trothe's paramour, a poet of dubious quality and most definitely not a fighter. Upper class British dialect

Lord Abernathy: (Presents 40+, any race/ethnicity, masculine presenting.)
Close friend of Trothe's late father. A lawyer, stodgy, dim, and full of empty flourish. Upper class British dialect

Luitger / Eleonore: (Presents 30+, any race/ethnicity, masculine presenting, female-identifying or nonbinary identifying.) Supposedly, a great Prussian swordsman - only speaks German. Passes for a man most of the play. Arrives expecting to be wed to Trothe.
