Out of the Mist Theatre Company presents auditions for The Weir by Conor McPherson, directed by Michelle Schwantes

The Weir is to be performed in a site-specific fashion at The Local and Sweeney's Saloon, with performances August 23rd - 25th, 29th, 31st, and September 1st. Rehearsals begin mid-July and will run weekday evenings with occasional weekend dates, in accordance with actor availability. All rehearsals will be held in the Twin Cities. 

Auditions will take place on:

 Saturday June 29th from 5:30-9:30 pm at Episcopal Homes - Welcome Center, 1860 University Avenue, St. Paul, MN 55104

 Sunday June 30th from 1:00 - 4:00 PM at Edina Library, 5280 Grandview Square, Edina, MN 55436

Show Description - The play is set in a rural pub in Northwestern Ireland, local characters are intrigued and disturbed by the arrival of a Dubliner in their village. She weaves powerful stories that stir their imagination, and force them to confront class divisions, loss, loneliness, and missed opportunity. 

What to Prepare - An audition package that may be comprised of one or two contemporary monologues, totaling two minutes or less. These can be comedic or dramatic and should showcase your storytelling abilities. If you are comfortable with any Irish dialects, it is most welcome, but not required. 

Character Description:

Jack - Male-Presenting - 40's 

   A salty and lovable bachelor and leader of the gang at Brendan's pub. Lonely and regretful, he frequents the pub as a social lifeline, while privately grieving lost love. 

Brendan - Male-Presenting - 35+

   The lonely pub owner with a quiet nature. He is estranged from his family and serves as mediator for any quarrels amongst his friends. 

Jim - Male-Presenting - 40's

   Jack's handyman and assistant. A shy and quiet man of habit who lives with his aging and harsh mother. 

Finbar Mack - Male-Presenting - 40's

   Finbar rents the old Nealon place to Valerie and introduces her to his circle of friends. Having grown up with Jack and Jim, Finbar sought his fortune in Dublin as a real estate    agent. He was successful but could never live up to the legacy of his father, Big Finbar.  He has returned home, but to some resentment from the others as he likes to throw his money around and talk a big game. 

Valerie - Female-Presenting - 30's 

   A Dubliner, she is renting the old Nealon place from Finbar, seeking repose and contemplation in the rural village. She is processing her grief from the loss of her young daughter. Her powerful stories weave through the narrative of the show.
