Drama

From its opening image in a brash spotlight, The American Clock stiches a fabric of brief scenes performed as a lively vaudeville punctuated with songs, and dance accompanied by an ensemble of talented actors who double as musicians. With melodies like Million Dollar Baby, Sunny Side of the Street, and S’Wonderful, Arthur Miller’s “brilliant theatrical kaleidoscope of Great Depression throbs with joy, laughs and heartache.” As the 2008 recession’s sting is still being felt, The American Clock resonates today with its cautionary tale as well as a renewal of hope. The American Clock opens April 13 playing through April 23 at the Guthrie Theater’s Dowling Studio, and is performed by the University of Minnesota/Guthrie Theater BFA 2017 graduating class under the direction of Joseph Price.
