Annie Oakley is the best shot around, and she manages to support her little brother and sisters by selling the game she hunts. When she's discovered by Col. Buffalo Bill, he persuades this novel sharpshooter to join his Wild West Show. It only takes one glance for her to fall head over heels for dashing shooting ace Frank Butler, who headlines the show. She soon eclipses Butler as the main attraction which, while good for business, is bad for romance. Butler hightails it off to join a rival show, his bruised male ego leading the way, but is ultimately pitted against Annie in a final shoot-out. The rousing, sure-fire finale hits the mark every time in a testament to the power of female ingenuity.

“Play On!,” by Rick Abbot, tells the story of a theater group desperately trying to perform a fun-filled murder mystery, despite maddening interference from the playwright, who keeps revising the script. Act I is a rehearsal of the play “Murder Most Foul,” Act II is the near disastrous dress rehearsal, and the final act is the opening performance in which almost anything that can go wrong does.

Director Gorden Hedahl is a retired professor of theater and dean emeritus of Arts and Sciences at University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Hedahl has directed over 75 productions for university, community, and semi-professional theaters. He previously directed “White Christmas” and “It’s a Wonderful Life” at The Phipps, and has been directing at several theaters in the area. Most recently, he staged “Noises Off” and a segment of “All in the Timing” at Lakeshore Players; “The Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow” in Stillwater; and “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” for the Woodbury Community Theatre.
