Artistry is pleased to partner with nationally recognized Open Eye Figure Theatre to welcome young children and their families into the Black Box with the imaginative play, Milly and Tillie. This “45 minutes of silliness and surprises” (Star Tribune) is a perfect first live theater experience for elementary school-aged children that will also delight their older companions. A “light and fanciful but rich and accomplished” work (Twin Cities Daily Planet), the play follows the antics and adventures of title characters Milly and Tillie as they set out for a picnic and find the unexpected.

About Chronofon Productions

Chrono - (pertaining to time) fon - (abbreviation of "fonic", describing something we hear, such as music or a recording of music.

Chronofon Productions is a confluence of four principle Minnesota performing artists — Dan Chouinard, Diana Grasselli, Bradley Greenwald and Prudence Johnson — who together, conceive, research, write, design, direct, and perform musical chronicles of past and present artists, time periods, and places. Their diverse voices and writing and directorial styles complement and challenge one another, to develop dynamic, theatrical concerts for audiences of all ages and eco-ethnic backgrounds.

The artistic goals set forth by this group of experienced collaborators include successfully representing the artistic merit and significance of their subjects through the exploration and exposition of its music, art, culture, and social mirrors, while executing the material with depth, style, innovation and humor.

In collaboration with the Friends of the St. Paul Public Library and Open Eye Figure Theatre, and with support from The Minnesota Regional Arts Council, Chronofon has created sold-out productions for the past several years, including Weill & Brecht - The Berlin Years; Jacques Brel: When We Have Only Love and '66: Talkin' Bout My Generation.

SPRING AWAKENING
Book & Lyrics by Steven Sater
Music by Duncan Sheik

July 20-22 & 27-29
7:30PM

Based on Frank Wedekinds groundbreaking and controversial play (once banned in Germany), Steven Sater and Duncan Sheiks brilliant rock score and searingly emotional book take the story of sexual awakening, youth revolt, and self-discovery into a new century. Its 1891, and grown-ups hold all the cards. Headstrong Melchior and naive Wendla stumble into each others arms, passionate and curious, while anxious Moritz struggles to live up to the stringent expectations of society. With only each other for guidance, this group of young men and women travel the fraught and rocky path of adolescence, discovering their bodies, their minds, and themselves along the way. An electric, vibrant celebration of youth and rebellion, Spring Awakening fuses issues of morality, sexuality, and rock and roll into a story that packs a powerful emotional punch.

Red Bird Theatre’s production of Time to Burn, by Charles L. Mee, Jr., places people living on the margins of society center stage.  Set in an abandoned, disintegrating factory in Chicago, the play examines the lives of those the system is working to make invisible – immigrants, Muslims, gays, people of color and addicts.  Performed by a diverse cast, in multiple languages and dialects, Time to Burn puts faces on the issues and makes the political personal.

One of the most popular Disney movies of all time is capturing hearts in a whole new way: as a practically perfect musical! Based on the books by P.L. Travers and the classic Walt Disney film, Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins delighted Broadway audiences for over 2,500 performances and received nominations for nine Olivier and seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

The jack-of-all trades, Bert, introduces us to England in 1910 and the troubled Banks family. Young Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep. Using a combination of magic and common sense, she must teach the family members how to value each other again. Mary Poppins takes the children on many magical and memorable adventures, but Jane and Michael aren’t the only ones upon whom she has a profound effect. MNartists.org has described past Momentum performances as representing "the diversity and strength of Twin Cities dance" where a "sense of trained, intentional risk, this shared moment of vulnerability and confidence speaks loudly to the hours and energy that all the choreographers and dancers ... invested to get here."

Momentum is among the most popular platforms of emerging choreographic talent in the Twin Cities. Featuring two new works each evening, the series highlights an exciting next generation of dance creators.
