This magically engaging story, proving that family, friendship and resilience are found in the heart of the imagination, will grace our Hopkins Jaycees Studio in May. Crenshaw is a cat. This unforgettable creature comes into 10 year old Jackson’s life to help him and his family as they fall on hard times and may have to live in their minivan…again. Don’t Hug Me, We’re Family is the sixth in the Don’t Hug Me series of musical comedies. Gunner and Clara Johnson are owners of a little northwoods Minnesota bar called The Bunyan. Things are tight so, to make ends meet, they rent out a little radio station, KOLD Radio, in the bar for extra money. Gunner hosts a radio show called “Crappie Talk,” devoted entirely to ice fishing for crappies. Because of its narrow subject, Gunner has no listeners, and he loses his only advertiser Kanute’s Bait Mart and Deer Petting Farm. His wife Clara hosts "Book Beat." She has all the listeners and all the advertisers. This doesn’t sit well with Gunner, who has been competitive with Clara ever since she beat him in the County Fair fishing contest. Things get turned upside down when two fish-out-of-water Brooklyn Italians come to town and threaten the existence of the radio station, promoting Clara and firing Gunner. Gunner has his work cut out for him. He needs his radio station job, he needs his dignity, but most important, he needs Clara.

"Prescription: Murder"

COLUMBO

by William Link and Richard Levinson

In 1961, Claire Flemming is found strangled in her New York apartment. Her husband, Dr. Roy Flemming, has the perfect alibi. The detective on the case: Lt. Columbo. "Prescription: Murder" is a classic Columbo tale, pitting his intellect against the killer's in a game of cat-and-mouse with life or death consequences.

Just one more thing...

Six years before Peter Falk stepped into the role on television, Columbo existed on stage. This play was written by William Link and Richard Levinson, the duo who would later create the TV show. The production's original cast included Joseph Cotten and Agnes Moorehead, with Thomas Mitchell as Columbo.

Ghoulish Delights is thrilled to bring this script to the stage again—not with the intention of recreating a television show in a theater—but rather, to bring one of the most iconic detectives ever created to life. And it is our goal to do so in a way that is new and original, while staying completely faithful to the original characters and story.

Tim Uren directs. The cast includes Riley McNutt, Heidi Berg, Boo Segersin, Craig Johnson, Lana Rosario, with Sam Landman as Lt. Columbo.

Shows are Friday and Saturday, May 4th and 5th, and then Thursday through Sunday, May 10th through the 13th. Doors open at 6:30 PM and performances start at 7:00 PM. Note that ticket prices do not include fees for reserving. A group rate is available for parties of six or more.

“Prescription: Murder” is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH, INC.

Classics Lost ‘n’ Found Theater Company is pleased to announce the world premiere of “Home, Not So Sweet Homeless” by Noreen K. Brandt. The proceeds for this production will be donated to Beacon Housing and Families Moving Forward, both church-affiliated homeless support groups.

Subtitled “A Fable of Our Time,” the production is directed by Frank Blomgren, “Home, Not So Sweet Homeless” will play four performances, Friday, May 11 and May 18 and Saturday, May 12 and 19 at 7 pm. The production will be performed at Lake Nokomis Lutheran Church. 5011 S. 31st Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55417.

“Home, Not-So-Sweet Homeless” examines how these people manage to survive while attempting to jump through the hoops that society has created to help them. The play offers neither answers nor resolutions but attempts to address a system that’s been broken since the Reagan Administration.

Noreen K. Brandt, an East Nokomis resident, has had plays performed throughout the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota. A long-time VA Hospital employee (now retired), her inspiration for this play was seeing the sheer volume of homeless veterans increase in the past ten years, despite augmented government funding.  Her hope in producing this play is that audiences will see "the homeless" not as a problem, statistic or as faceless people to be ignored, but as real people in bad circumstances who need our help and compassion. Classics Lost ‘n’ Found Theater Company is requesting a suggested donation of $10 for this benefit production. For further information, contact Noreen Brandt at 612-724-4539.

“This is a love story.  It’s about mature love, marriage, romantic love, and familial love,” says director James Williams.  Set in the late 1940s against the backdrop of post-WWII recovery in America, this four- character, two-act play takes place in the segregated black neighborhood of Central Cleveland, where characters Mamie and Raymond Warren reside.  Mamie desperately needs household help after her husband has a serious accident. On the recommendation of a friend, Mamie hires a down-on-her-luck woman named Bessie, whose arrival brings surprises and new challenges. In this setting, Under this Roof explores themes of mature love, family, disability, and race on an ever-shifting axis, with often-unexpected comic, painful, and heartfelt results.

Theatre Coup d’Etat presents Marisol by José Rivera, performing May 4 - 19, 7:30pm at SpringHouse Ministry Center in Minneapolis.

Winner of the 1993 Obie Award, Marisol is an apocalyptic urban fantasy which urges society to "wake up" and somehow find a way to recover the long-lost and much-needed compassion for our fellow man, as this is the only way to save our world. Angelic warfare, mental illness, and the disintegration of modern society are the themes as we follow Marisol Perez, a young Puerto Rican woman, through a disturbing and disorienting world that pushes the boundaries of conventional theology, biological sex, personal relationships, and the pathology of fear and paranoia.

Two-time Ivey Award-winning Theatre Coup d’Etat is proud to present this apocalyptic urban fantasy in the Twin Cities. Combining actor-driven movement and the black box-style seating of SpringHouse Ministry Center, Theatre Coup d’Etat’s production of Marisol is another can’t-miss experience.

Admission is sliding scale, $18-$40. Tickets available at www.theatrecoupdetat.com or call 1-800-838-3006. SpringHouse Ministry Center is located at 610 W 28th St.

And Damis has developed a particularly severe case – he’s fallen in love with the work of a mysterious poetess, not knowing that his idol is actually a middle-aged gentleman writing under a pen name. Plot twists, complications, and mistaken identities – all in rhymed verse – tumble to a happy ending in this new telling of a 1738 French farce. “…the language is golden…almost criminally enjoyable…”  –Washington Post

An Enemy of the People follows Tom Stockmann, a geologist who discovers dangerous water pollution in the Springs, a highly anticipated resort that recently opened in his Norwegian town. In Tom’s mind, the path to a solution is clear: inform the public and close the resort to prevent a crisis. But gradually, he comes under fire – from his brother (the town’s mayor), to the press, to his neighbors and his own family – for wanting to publicize a problem that threatens to destroy the town’s economy and reputation. With ripped-from-the-headlines relevance, this high-intensity drama is a powerful investigation of ambition, integrity and the price we pay for truth.

Fran Loesser's celebrated Musical Comedy about rolling the dice and falling in love under the bright lights of Broadway.  Guys & Dolls is considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy for all ages!

Set in a mythical New York City, Guys & Dolls tells the tall of one Nathan Detroit, a guy who needs a venue for his "permanently established floating craps game." His best venue falls through and he needs money to underwrite an alternative option.  He turns to Sky Masterson, a high roller who will be on anything if the stakes are high enough.  Desperate for a sure thing, Nathan bets Sky he can't get a date with Sarah Brown, the earnest proprietor of the Save-a-Soul mission.

Things don't go as planned and, along the way, you are treated to some of the most memorable Broadway tunes: Luck Be a Lady, Sit Down You're Rockin' the Boat, Sue Me, A Bushel and a Peck... and more.

World Premiere
May 4, 5, and 11

Imagine being hooked on something that causes your mind to forget everything: pain, loss, regret, fear, despair. And all you are left with is happiness, complete and utter bliss. Why wouldn't you do this all the time? What if there was a place you could go that everyday you would get this drug, this happiness, you could spend the rest of your days just existing? Why wouldn't you go there.

But what if all of this was actually happening and you realized it was awful, how would you get out, how would you wrench your mind back into some semblance of rational thought to try and escape? Could you? Would you even want to?

Bliss is post-utopian drug trip through the psyche of a woman trapped by her own choices.

IMPORTANT
Seating is very limited (25 seats per show), we encourage you to reserve with the ticket link ahead of time so that you have a seat. Payment will be taken at the door (cash, card, check). The show starts promtply at 8p and the front door will be locked at that time so please plan to arrive early and take parking or transit into account.

About the musical guest:
Waltzing on Waves is the solo act of Jen Bluhm, a Twin Cities-based genre-fluid artist who carries a special appreciation for the bittersweet places, the preciously awkward paces, and the borderline absurd spaces that music can identify and elevate in the hearts and minds of humans. She knows her voice well, accessing techniques and devices from many different styles of music. She is a veteran songwriter of 25 years, a film composer, and multi-instrumentalist. A great passion of Jen's is Neurodiversity/Mental Health Advocacy, as she highly values the beauty and depth that humans who are wired differently contribute to our world. Waltzing on Waves is currently at Side Town Studios recording her self-titled debut album to be released in the Fall of 2018.

About The Local Music Scene:
The Local Music Scene is a rotating cast of some of the best improvisors in the twin cities, and is hosted by Philip Simondet.
