‘Silly old bear’: Winnie-the-Pooh opens at the Old Log Theatre
The Old Log Theatre presents Excelsior Entertainments production of a charming musical version of A.A. Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh.
Pooh’s time-tested wisdom is as relevant today as it was nearly a century ago, when the beloved teddy bear first appeared in print. Christopher Robin's fat little "bear of very little brain" who would like to drift peacefully through life, humming tunes and stopping frequently to eat "a little something", finds himself involved in all sorts of frantic adventures, assisted by such friends as the Eeyore, Piglet and Rabbit, with his countless relations.  Winnie-the-Pooh is a wonderful children’s play for kids of all ages.

It’s December 23rd, 1978.
Albee Humphrey used to be household name, but these days his star is fading. He’s got one last shot at his big comeback – with a network televised Christmas special. There’s celebrity guests, variety acts, and there’s even rumor of a reunion with his former comedy partner – who he hasn't spoken to in 20 years. He’ll be using members of his studio audience as extras, so you may even find yourself getting in on the act!
This is his last chance to be a star again. He’ll either make it to the top…or die trying!

Mystery Cafe dishes out a hilarious comedy caper, where you and your table are invited to solve the crime…all while enjoying a delicious 3-course meal. Upon arrival, you’ll be seated by members of the cast. Clues are all around, and you’ll also be provided with “Mystery Money,” so you can bribe characters for more information.

The evidence points to one answer, and a prize is awarded to our “Super Sleuth” winner. We also give prizes for the most…shall we say…“creative” answer. Right or wrong, you’ll be laughing all the way to the solution. Whether or not crack the case, you’ll certainly bust a gut!

Starring
Wini Froelich, Dave Gangler, Michael Lee, Ann Lees and Dan Rooney. Written by Brian Kelly & Doug Neithercott. Directed by Brian Kelly

The Loneliest Person in the Universe
created and performed by Seth Eberle
directed by Kurt Hunter
recorded music by Blake Brauer

Performed at Dreamland Arts, 677 Hamline Ave, St. Paul, MN

The Loneliest Person in the Universe follows the historical figure Richard Carrington, the first astronomer to discover the connection between sunspots, the Northern Lights, and electromagnetic storms. In a world that is full of loneliness, how can it be tamed and how can we feel less alone in such a vast universe? What do the northern lights tell us, and why are they connected to the sun? Even in the loneliest of moments where can we find a connection with something bigger than ourselves?

Note: The content of this show is intended for older elementary kids through adults, but children ages 6+ will enjoy this performance as well. The play deals with the emotion of loneliness and how we can handle it in the face of the universe, so having some experience with this feeling will help you appreciate the show more fully. The puppets are all marionettes, or figures manipulated by strings, and after the show audience members are invited to see the puppets up close with a demonstration of how they work.

Seth Eberle is a fiscal year 2018 recipient of an Artist Initiative Grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

Bringing fierce guitar playing and swing to gospel music, Sister Rosetta Tharpe influenced rock musicians from Elvis to Jimi Hendrix and Ray Charles. The story begins in a funeral parlor in Mississippi, as Rosetta and her young protégé, Marie Knight, prepare for a tour that will establish them as a great musical duo. Hear renditions of spirituals like “Were You There When They Crucified My Lord?” and “Sit Down,” to distinctly non-religious songs like “I Want a Tall Skinny Papa.” Wendy Knox directs the regional premiere of this play with music by George Brant.

Jessica Lind Peterson’s original holiday comedy is back and sillier than ever! Soap opera star Colin Avery returns to his Minnesota roots to take over Christmas Lake Community Theater after his father dies. Colin's new wife Tess – a city girl with zero tolerance for mosquitoes – comes along for the ride only to find the theater on the verge of bankruptcy. After losing the rights to It’s a Wonderful Life, they race to come up with another play. With piano tuner and Little House fanatic Neil Gunderson, and lizard-loving massage therapist Martha Knutson as the only cast members, hilarity ensues as this unlikely bunch scramble to save the theater. There’s true love and off-key Christmas carols, lutefisk and bearded dragons, and best of all, unexpected miracles happen.  A ridiculous and heart-warming holiday comedy guaranteed to tickle the funny bone of lutefisk-eating Minnesotans everywhere!  “A madcap holiday farce!” – Twin Cities Daily Planet

"...I leaned back in my chair and tried to wash away the uncomplicated flavors of shame, bile, and monkey spit..."

It’s December 21st, 2012, and something’s gone terribly wrong with the timeline. Now it’s up to Saint Nicholas, a soft-boiled detective, and an unknown carpenter’s son named Jesus of Nazareth to set things right in this giddily blasphemous collection of musical and literary parodies!

Based on the comic fantasy novella by humorist and internationally touring storyteller phillip andrew bennett low, adapted for the stage by playwright Joey Hamburger of Sheep Theater (Best Theater Troupe, City Pages 2018), featuring original songs by Pablo Jones, and directed by Derek Dirlam of the Condundrum Collective. Also featuring Jim Christianson, Kyle Dekker, Theo Ebarb, Al Fiene, Kirstin Nelson, and Jennifer Rathsack!

WARNING: may contain mature language, as well as immature and insensitive humor regarding genitalia, flatulence, regurgitation, sex, drugs, rock and roll, lies, videotape, duct tape, tapeworms, subversion of ethnic stereotypes, fulfilment of ethnic stereotypes, hate culture, rape culture, ape culture, horticulture, and/or a deep reverence for deep irreverence. Not for the faint of heart or stomach.

ONLINE PRAISE FOR "GET THEE BEHIND ME, SANTA"

"...an off-the-wall noir-ish tale of blasphemy, time-travel, and social commentary on the hyper-commercialization of Christmas, interwoven with a series of 'Carols' that certainly deliver on the book's subtitle...the plot has the zaniness of something you and your friends would conceive while consuming way too much cheap whiskey after your 2:00 college creative writing class gets out..."

"...if you want a quick read...that will have you laughing and entertained with a 'holiday theme' then I can recommend this book. If you are a 'Church Lady' and want to get this to prove how much of a prude you are and complain how no one should read this...then pick it up too. It may just put a smile on your face..."

"I found this book to be completely, riotously hilarious...not a book for anyone who gets sick easily, or can't take a joke...quite offensive and crude and lewd and disgusting and harsh and unnecessary but that's what I loved about it."
