At the edge of parenthood, Quinn examines the environmental consequences of bringing a child into the world. Filled with music and fluid physicality, A SQUID HAS THREE HEARTS swims between fairy tale and hard reality, helplessness and hope. Originally developed as part of Umbrella Collective's Night of New Works, an incubation series for new works of theater and conversation.

** Due to inclement weather, the January 29th presentation has been rescheduled to February 25th.

Conceived by Mark Sweeney
Directed by Eli Purdom

WHAT IS A WORKSHOP PRESENTATION?
Umbrella Collective believes the audience (that’s you!) is a vital part of the creation process. That’s why we invite you into the messy parts, the unfinished work. Together, we are so much more, and we can create art that reflects pieces of ourselves: our joys, our fears, our stories. After the work-in-progress showing, we invite you to lend your voice to the new play making process through our signature audience conversations.

All audience members are invited to participate in the conversation, or just listen and write down thoughts on the surveys we provide! If post-show conversations aren't your thing... that's okay, too! We welcome feedback in whatever way is most comfortable to you.

Post-Show Reception: Please join Umbrella Collective as we celebrate our outgoing Artistic Director Laura Leffler at a special post-workshop reception on Monday, February 25, 2019 from 9:00 - 10:30 PM.

The reception is free, but please RSVP: http://evite.me/fGvPYyE7ZJ

On the lonely British coast, two retired nuclear scientists reside in a quiet cabin while the outside world erupts in utter chaos. An old friend arrives, revealing a frightening request. Winner of Best Play by The U.K. Writers’ Guild Awards, The Children is a “thought-provoking and haunting drama” (The New York Times). The Last Angel of History (1996) is an alluring blend of science fiction and essay film. The story of a time-traveling “data thief” on a quest to crack a hidden code that will unlock his destiny blends archival video, photographs, and interviews with musicians, writers, and cultural critics whose meditations explain the origins and significance of AfroFuturism. The result is John Akomfrah’s passionate call for black people around the world to uncover our histories, so that we may know where we are going.
