This hilarious, toe-tapping new musical based on Roald Dahl's classic story is a celebration of courage, family, and community. Fantastic, fun for all ages.

This masterpiece is probably the most famous of all comedies. Oscar Wilde’s brilliantly clever comedic tour de force tells the story of two young gentlemen in London who each live a double-life, creating elaborate deceptions to find some balance in their lives. John Worthing escapes the burdens of responsibility to have an exciting life in the city, pretending to be his fictitious younger brother Ernest. Algernon Moncrieff, meanwhile, has invented a convenient invalid, Bunbury, whom he uses as an excuse to gallivant off to the country whenever he pleases. When John falls in love with Algernon’s cousin, Gwendolen, he is determined to come clean, but when Gwendolen reveals she can only love a man named Ernest, it somewhat complicates things.

The British are coming, again! History repeats itself at Phoenix Theater this summer for Sheep Theater’s remount of its successful 4th of July comedy, George. This wild show races through the lesser-known side to our nation’s birth, ie. George Washington was dead throughout the entire revolution after being killed by our founding fathers Thomas Jefferson and John Hancock. Well, it was an accident. Now, it is up to them to cover their tracks and save America from the dastardly King George and sneaky Benedict Arnold. Fun for all ages, unless you’re worried about your kid passing an American History exam. This irreverent comedy will have mostly everything you need to celebrate your patriotism (minus the fireworks).

George is written by Joey Hamburger, directed by Michael Hugh Torsch, assistant directed by Jacob Mobley, produced by Iris Rose Page and performed by Sheep Theater.

The Pillowman by Martin McDonagh

7:30 pm
Runs 130 minutes

SpringHouse Ministry Center
610 W 28th St, Minneapolis, MN

Presented by Theatre Coup d'Etat
  • Drama

Theatre Coup d’Etat presents The Pillowman by Martin McDonagh, directed by Rich Remedios, performing June 28 - July 20, 2019, all 7:30pm showings at SpringHouse Ministry Center in Minneapolis.

From Academy Award, Golden Globe, and BAFTA Award-winning Martin McDonaugh, screen writer of Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri., Seven Psychopaths, and In Bruges and playwright of The Beauty Queen of Lennane, Lonesome West, and The Lieutenant of Innishmore comes a darkly comedic masterpiece The Pillowman. In an interrogation room in an unnamed totalitarian dictatorship, Katurian Katurian, a writer, is being interrogated by two detectives. Next door waits Katurian’s brother with special needs, Michal. The detectives want to know why Katurian’s stories of gruesome plots about child murder and torture seem to mirror a string of recent child murders in the area.

Awarded the 2004 Olivier Award for Best New Play, the 2004-5, New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best New Foreign Play, and two Tony Awards, this brutal dark comedy poses unanswerable questions: How can art both offer hope and inspire unspeakable atrocities? Where is the line between truth and fairy tale? Is a life of horror worth living at all? Drawing on inspiration as diverse as Grimm’s Fairy Tales, Kafka, and Antonin Artaud, The Pillowman is a dark, twisty, and utterly unforgettable masterpiece from one of Ireland’s most treasured writers Martin McDonagh, the master of the horror-comedy.

Incorporating the use of shadow puppetry interacting with live actors, two-time Ivey Award-winning Theatre Coup d’Etat’s production of The Pillowman is a can’t-miss experience.

Admission is sliding scale, $18-$40. Tickets available at SpringHouse Ministry Center is located at 610 W 28th St.
