A sunny room on an upper floor is prime real estate in the Bristol Place Senior Living Facility, so when the cantankerous Abby is forced to share her quarters with new-arrival Marilyn, she has no choice but to get rid of the infuriatingly chipper woman by any means necessary. A seemingly harmless bet between the women quickly escalates into a game of practical jokes and one-upmanship, revealing hidden truths that neither wants exposed. Written by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire, Ripcord is uproarious and heartwarming comedy.

Wayward Theatre Company is committed to bringing work outside of traditional theatre settings, allowing audiences to engage with texts and spaces in new and exciting ways. Next up on Wayward’s site-specific docket is Shakespeare’s brilliant tragedy; Macbeth, playing at the historic James J. Hill House.

As a follow-up to our extended, sold-out run of Hamlet in the spring of 2018, Macbeth will be the company’s most ambitious endeavor to date. Working side by side in partnership with the Minnesota Historical Society, Wayward will utilize this historic landmark in ways patrons of the arts and of the Hill House have yet to experience.

Macbeth, considered by many to be Shakespeare’s greatest tragedy, brings audiences deep into the minds of an ambitious couple, hellbent on power and position. A supernatural prophecy calls a would-be king and queen to action and as they work to realize their greatest dreams, their world turns suddenly into a living nightmare.

One of the most enduring plays in American history, Thornton Wilder’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Our Town tells the story of Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire, and the simultaneously remarkable and quotidian lives of its inhabitants over the twelve long (and short) years from 1901 to 1913. Narrated by the omnipotent Stage Manager and anchored by the love story of young George Gibbs and Emily Webb, Our Town is a play about life: at once epic, ordinary, and fleeting.

“Some stories are so remarkable we tell them again and again. Those are the things worth remembering.”

Fearing the unthinkable, a family flees into the wilderness. Fifty years later, park rangers Callie and David stumble across an unbelievable discovery.

While on a survey expedition, they encounter Vira, a woman born and raised in nearly complete isolation. Over the course of several days, they nurture a fragile trust as she shares her extraordinary story. Ultimately, they are faced with an agonizing choice: reveal her existence to a world that she has never known and cannot grasp, or help keep her hidden on a planet that is running out of space for secrets.

What happens when an impossible future collides with an imagined past? A spare and moving examination of a secluded life, and the ripples it makes, even from the depths of a shrinking wilderness.

nimbus’ next journey begins November 9th.

Presented by American Civic Forum

Between the end of the Civil War and 1964, the South was a stronghold of the Democratic Party. With the rise of the civil rights movement, white racial resentment flared—and our political parties shifted. The once-solid South cracked when Republican Barry Goldwater (who opposed the Civil Rights Act) shocked the country when he carried five Southern states in the 1964 presidential election.

Although Goldwater lost in a landslide to Texas Democrat Lyndon Johnson, using white voters’ anger to win votes—“the Southern Strategy”—spread like wildfire across the country. The Southern Strategy dramatically shifted the ideology and demographics our two major political parties and altered the U.S. political landscape in ways that persist today.

Using the words of GOP politicians and strategists verbatim, we trace the history of the Southern Strategy from its inception to 2005, when the Republican Party officially apologized for it.

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is happening in the Twin Cities! Performed by a company of wonderfully talented actors and musicians from throughout the Twin Cities Theatre Community, this hysterical and heart-warming musical, produced by the Century College Theatre Company, is a musical sure to charm audiences of all-ages. This innovative staging of the thoroughly fun and engaging piece is guaranteed to motivate joyful S-M-I-L-E-S on all the audiences faces.

Music Theatre International describes the musical as the:

Winner of the Tony and the Drama Desk Awards for Best Book, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee has charmed audiences across the country with its effortless wit and humor. Featuring a fast-paced, wildly funny and touching book by Rachel Sheinkin and a truly fresh and vibrant score by William Finn, this bee is one unforgettable experience.

An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box.

A riotous ride, complete with audience participation, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a delightful den of comedic genius.
