THE EMPEROR's NEW CLOTHES
Musical for the Holiday season.
Matinees: November 12- December 31, 2019
The incomparably imaginative creators of Seussical, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, bring one of Hans Christian Andersen's most beloved tales to life in The Emperor's New Clothes. This winsome musical is a crowd-pleaser for all ages.
Fourteen-year-old Emperor Marcus the 3rd is nervous to take the throne. Deciding that he can only gain confidence by dressing in the finest attire, Marcus commands his Royal Clothesmaker to fashion him in the most royal wardrobe. Taking advantage of Marcus' uncertainty and immaturity, a Swindler promises to make magic clothes that are "invisible to fools, liars, and anyone you should ignore," for a large and hefty price. Only Arno, the simple-hearted mop boy, can help Marcus out of this royal mess and teach him an important lesson about outward appearance.

See SIX at the Ordway before it heads to Broadway!
“A total blast! It’s as much a Beyoncé-style pop-concert as theatre… Go Queens!”
– Chicago Tribune
“Delivers pure entertainment… wickedly smart lyrics.”
– The New York Times
Divorced, beheaded, died; divorced, beheaded, survived. All this time, they’ve been just one word in a stupid rhyme—so they picked up a pen and a microphone. History’s about to get overthrown.
After a wildly successful UK tour and a sold out run in Chicago, the musical phenomenon of SIX is appearing on the Ordway stage!
The wives of Henry VIII join forces for an electrifying pop-concert spectacle—shining a spotlight on these six women as never before. The queens take the mic to reclaim their identities out of the shadow of their infamous spouse, remixing five hundred years of historical heartbreak into a power-packed celebration of twenty-first-century female empowerment. Backed by a band known as the “Ladies in Waiting,” the all-woman ensemble crosses the spectrum of modern-day pop with a soundtrack that has stormed to the top of the global charts.
SIX is scheduled to begin performances on Broadway in 2020.

It’s December 23rd, 1978.
Albee Humphrey used to be household name, but these days his star is fading. He’s got one last shot at his big comeback – with a network televised Christmas special. There’s celebrity guests, variety acts, and there’s even rumor of a reunion with his former comedy partner – who he hasn’t spoken to in 20 years. He’ll be using members of his studio audience as extras, so you may even find yourself getting in on the act!
This is his last chance to be a star again. He’ll either make it back on top…or die trying!
The Mystery Cafe dishes out a hilarious comedy caper, where you and your table are invited to solve the crime…all while enjoying a delicious 3-course meal.
Upon arrival, you’ll be seated by members of the cast. Clues are all around, and you’ll also be provided with “Mystery Money,” so you can bribe characters for more information.
The evidence points to one answer, and a prize is awarded to our “Super Sleuth” winner. We also give prizes for the most…shall we say…“creative” answer. Right or wrong, you’ll be laughing all the way to the solution. Whether or not you crack the case, you’ll certainly bust a gut!

From the team that created My Way, the hottest musical revue in America right now, it's beginning to look a lot like a free, fresh, knocked-out coo-coo Sinatra Christmas, complete with 40 swingin' hits perfect for the holidays.
Nothing is silent about this night where four singers serve up cool versions of Sinatra mainstays like "Fly Me To The Moon," "New York, New York," "That's Life," "Love and Marriage," "I Get A Kick Out of You," "I've Got You Under My Skin," and "The Lady is a Tramp".
Plus, they make a little hey-hey with groovy versions of such Sinatra Christmas hits like "Mistletoe and Holly," "The Christmas Song," "Christmas Memories," "Winter Wonderland," "Silver Bells" and "I'll Be Home for Christmas." Toss in Rat Pack-ish versions of "Twas the Night Before Christmas" and "The Twelve Days of Christmas," Christmas My Way invites you to grab your bird, jingle your bells, pour a good stiff egg nog, and have yourself a merry little Christmas NOW, baby!

Join us for the culmination of cfpa’s Fall 2019 New Works Residencies! Choreographer Kerry Parker, theater artist Morgan Holmes, and composer David Means will all present work on both nights.
With the support of free rehearsal space and a mentor specifically chosen for this project, three local performing artists have initiated development of a completely new work. The final piece of this residency is to invite audiences into conversation with the artist’s process, with this public presentation and discussion.
All cfpa events are pay-what-you-can (donation) at the door. Advance reservations are encouraged.
Kerry Parker and her collaborators have been building a site- and season-specific dance that is a death ritual, exploring senescence and seasonal darkness as part of a personal cosmology. Kerry has investigated the relationship between site, ritual, history and movement in cfpa’s chapel over the past two years. This piece will deeply revisit the history of the building, investing in the influences of the coming winter season. Kerry’s mentor for this project has been Ruth MacKenzie.
Morgan Holmes has initiated creation of a solo performance, “10 Hours of Rain Sounds,” that uses YouTube – its beauty tutorials, repetitive endurance videos, music, and self-care influencers – to explore grief, healing and re-establishing an everyday routine in the wake of trauma. Mo’s mentor for this project has been Jessica Lopez Lyman.
David Means has been building a composition currently titled “Forward Observer.” Centered around an infantry outpost in Vietnam and surgical hospital in Italy, David is working with musician Tom Kanthak.“Two soldiers share a journey back to places of beauty and grace beset by war and trauma. One is a chief’s son, surgical assistant, and musician. The other is a radioman, architect, and storyteller. One serves in an Italian surgical hospital. The other in an obscure outpost in Vietnam. Together they weave a reminiscence of freedom and recovery amidst a tangle of destruction, injury and violence.” David’s mentor for this project has been choreographer Maureen Koelsch.
More information about the artists HERE.
cfpa’s ReClaim series is an assembly space to connect all kinds of audiences, artists, experiences, and stories. Our events explore the vitality and evolution of American identity, and the ways in which creative works reflect our lived experience (or not). Our events grapple with the stories we hear and see, the stories we make and tell, and the ways in which we are (or are not) changed by creative representations of our experiences. We support artists who engage fiercely with the complex and contradictory nature of the human experience. We support audiences who yearn for greater personal engagement between works of art and the daily life of our community. We assemble for lively questions, dynamic conversation, and to encourage new ways of understanding each other’s lives.
cfpa produces monthly performance events. All events are pay-what-you-can (donation) and open to the public.

what if is the proposition to look at ourselves, our world in different ways. Letting our imaginations take flight and carry us to where we did not think possible. Or didn’t know was there. Or would prefer not to look at. What if we could see through another’s eyes? What would that look like? What if the mirror was held up to nature, but instead of seeing what’s reflected we saw what was inside? What would it say? What if we could? What if we did? So…what if?
From the company that brought you THE PRODIGIOUS LIFE OF CLARA S., SPEECHLESS and REFUGIA. Featuring Sarah Agnew, Steven Epp and Nathan Keepers. Directed by Dominique Serrand.

In Regency England, love is a serious game and the Bennet sisters are playing for keeps. The outspoken Lizzy is determined never to marry, but can she resist love, especially when the amusing but mildly aggravating Mr. Darcy keeps popping up at every turn? Bold, timely, with a few dance breaks thrown in, playwright Kate Hamill and director Lisa Channer reimagine Jane Austen for today.

DOG ACT: a postapocalyptic vaudeville by Liz Duffy Adams
Directed by Ben Layne
Welcome to the future! The American government, society, and environment are totally fucked. Zetta and Dog (a human undergoing a voluntary species change) are singing and dancing their way across the wasteland on their way to a command performance for the King of China. Will a ukulele and a few tunes protect them from scatological, cannibalistic scavengers—and other less obvious dangers? Come see this wild mixture of dark humor, sharp satire, and baggy-pants vaudeville about an all-too-possible future where we may all be eating Squish.
