A timeless holiday tale

A miserly and miserable man, Ebenezer Scrooge greets each Christmas with “Bah! Humbug!” until he is visited one Christmas Eve by the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Christmas Present and Christmas Future. In Charles Dickens’ beloved classic, the three spirits show Scrooge happy memories from his past, difficult realities from the present and a grim future should he continue his closed-hearted ways. This world-premiere adaptation stays faithful to the text and invites audiences to experience the wonder of the holiday season through all-new scenery, costumes, props, lighting and sound.

A Christmas Carol will run November 11 – December 27, 2021, on the Wurtele Thrust Stage. Tickets range from $29 to $134 and are on sale now through the Box Office at 612.377.2224, 1.877.447.8243 (toll-free) or online at guthrietheater.org. Accessibility services (ASL-interpreted, audio-described, open-captioned, family-friendly and relaxed performances) are available on select dates. For up-to-date information about the Guthrie’s health and safety policies, visit www.guthrietheater.org/health.

The show's run time is approximately 1 hour, 45 minutes (including intermission). We recommend A Christmas Carol for ages 8 and up. Everyone must have a ticket, and children under 5 are not admitted. This production contains strobe lights, haze and fog.

It’s a goosebump-inducing, gorgeous production that fills the stage and the hearts of everyone who

watches it.

Times are tough, spirits are low, and the world is in dire need of hope. Enter, stage left: a delightful

underdog—a good-natured, yet mischievously feisty, young girl. She takes on the world and, with an

equal share of moxie and music, unlocks hearts and changes lives through kindness, love, and spirit.

The longest-running American musical in Broadway history, it's the Jazz Age, the roaring twenties in Chicago, and chorine Roxie Hart murders a faithless lover and convinces her hapless husband, Amos, to take the rap...until he finds out he's been duped and turns on Roxie.

Convicted and sent to death row, Roxie and another "Merry Murderess," Velma Kelly, vie for the spotlight and the headlines, ultimately joining forces in search of the "American Dream": fame, fortune, and acquittal. This sharp-edged satire features a dazzling score that sparked immortal staging by Bob Fosse, and includes songs like "All That Jazz," "Cell Block Tango," and "Mr. Cellophane," among others.

Told with zany marionettes and a transforming cardboard box, The Box King is a family show following two kingdoms.

One with a queen and a kingdom that is clean and very well organized. One with a king and a kingdom that is incredibly forgetful but full of the nicest people you know.

These two kingdoms are joined together through the marriage of their leaders. But, what happens when the king loses the queen and cannot remember who anyone is any longer? Is putting everything and everyone into boxes the way to keep things organized, or is there more to an organized kingdom?

The citizens of River City have got trouble… That’s a capital T, that rhymes with P and stands for “Professor” Harold Hill. He’s a charming, fast-talkin’ traveling salesman who goes city to city starting youth marching bands. Hill promises to teach the kids and raises the money to purchase the instruments and uniforms. There’s just one person who can’t tell the difference between a trombone and a treble clef – Professor Hill.  Everyone is simply enamored by Professor Hill, everyone except for the suspicious town librarian, Marian Paroo.

On a campaign to rid River City of the impending demise of their youth, Professor Hill condemns a variety of activities – including Mayor Shinn’s new pool table in the town parlor. Shinn, incensed, begins an investigation into Professor Hill’s true credentials.  Marian sees right through Professor Hill’s marching band scheme. She’s ready to tell Professor Hill off until she sees her self-conscious little brother, Winthrop, shed his shyness when he picks up a shiny, new cornet. The trouble really begins when Marian’s heart beats a little faster for Professor Hill.

Get into a little trouble with Meredith Willson’s five-time Tony Award-winning musical featuring the unforgettable songs “Seventy-Six Trombones,” “Ya Got Trouble,” “Wells Fargo Wagon” and “Till There Was You.” Don’t miss this classic, all-American musical for every generation.
