Rosetown Playhouse is hiring for our winter youth show, A Bad Case of Stripes. Dedicated to building community & creating theater, Rosetown is looking for "outside the box" thinkers who are good collaborators and enjoy working with youth ages 7-16.

Seeking: Director, Music Director, Production Manager, Stage Manager, Assistant Stage Manager, Costumer (details below).

Important Dates:

Auditions will be held September 30th and October 1st.

Rehearsals will be scheduled Mon-Thursday evenings in two-hour increments, beginning October 15th.

Performances at RAMS December 12-14.

General Production Team Member Responsibilities

  • Attend weekly production meetings (scheduled based on availability)
  • Communicate with production team members via email and in person
  • Willingness to adapt to changing needs throughout rehearsal process

 

DIRECTOR (Stipend ~$1800 ) The director is responsible for the staging and artistic vision of the show. This person should have excellent leadership and collaboration skills as well as good communication. The director is in charge of running rehearsals.

Director Responsibilities

  • Communicate vision of the show to cast and production team
  • Block and stage the performance
  • Run rehearsals
  • Create rehearsal schedule (in collaboration with stage manager)
  • Contribute positive attitude at all rehearsals and performances

 

MUSIC DIRECTOR  (Stipend ~ $1350 )

The music director works with and teaches vocal parts to the youth cast with a broad range of vocal abilities and experiences.  This individual needs to embrace performers of all capabilities, both soloists and ensemble.  The music director should be attuned to what is happening in rehearsals, observing what is happening and how it impacts the musical aspect of the shows.

Music Director Responsibilities

  • Meets with director and choreographer to understand director’s vision of the show (including determining cuts, voicings, solos, tempos, etc.)
  • Creates music recordings for choreographer which coordinates with the musical score prior to first rehearsal
  • Creates music tracks to assist vocalists with learning parts (as needed)
  • Assists in auditions and casting
  • Teaches and rehearses all musical numbers with soloists and ensemble, working with cast of all ages and musical abilities and experiences
  • Holds any additional rehearsals (within reason) to accomplish learning of music

 

STAGE MANAGER (Stipend ~ $1,100 )

The stage manager plays a critical role in cast management and bringing together the production.  This person should be an excellent communicator and relationship builder, possess strong detail orientation, and exhibit collaboration skills.  The stage manager serves as the main communicator between production team and cast, including parents/guardians.  We have many existing resources and systems that a stage manager can make use of.

Stage Manager Responsibilities

  • Creates auditions materials
  • Runs auditions
  • Manages all cast data through casting process
  • Main point of communication for cast members and their families throughout the show process (includes weekly email communications, answering emails daily, etc.)
  • Prepares, copies, and distributes all cast materials
  • Organize and share production resources
  • Creates schedule (in consultation with directors)
  • Monitors all rehearsals, arriving early and staying late to answer questions and set up/tear down
  • Organizes crew members for performances
  • Distributes cast survey (survey provided by Board of Directors)
  • Contribute to positive attitude at rehearsals and performances

 

PRODUCTION MANAGER (Stipend ~ $800 )

The production manager is a major liaison with rehearsal spaces, organizes volunteers, and runs the front-of-house on performances.   This person should have excellent communication, relationship building, and collaboration skills.  We have many existing resources and systems that a production manager can make use of.

Production Manager Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and runs weekly production team meetings (includes sending out notes afterwards and getting meetings scheduled)
  • Act as liaison with ISD 623 and other rehearsal spaces
  • Reserve truck/trailer for set moving
  • Coordinate postering day
  • Coordinate t-shirt orders
  • Gather information for show program, getting information to program designer (in consultation with board members)
  • Solicits volunteers for the show; creates volunteer schedule 
  • At performances, coordinate volunteers and front of house activities (including lobby set-up)
  • Help with general concerns of cast and family
  • Attend select all-cast rehearsals (TBD with directors and stage manager) to assist when needed
  • Create show file at completion of performances
  • Contribute to positive attitude at rehearsals and performances



ASSISTANT STAGE MANAGER (Stipend ~ $375 )

The assistant stage manager is a key contributor to the show, assisting the stage manager in executing the many functions of cast management and the technical aspects of the show.   We view this role as an opportunity for an individual with skills in organization and people management to learn how Rosetown Playhouse functions with the potential to take on the stage manager role in future productions. Stipend:

Auditions & Rehearsal Responsibilities

  • Attend required rehearsals (approximately ¾ of rehearsals), all tech week rehearsals, and all performances
  • Assist SM with the compilation of cast materials
  • Assist with auditions
  • Assist with rehearsal set-up and clean-up
  • Assist with rehearsals; this includes blocking notes/notetaking or helping cast management during all-cast rehearsals.  This includes helping youth cast members get the most out of the rehearsal process.
  • Help keep cast members on track at rehearsals in positive and effective ways

Performance Responsibilities

  • In charge of props for rehearsals and performances, including creating props lists and supervising packing/setting up of props each night
  • Assist with set-up and tear down of all performances
  • Work all performances
  • Contribute to positive attitude at rehearsals and performances

 

COSTUMER (Stipend ~ $675 )

The costumer is responsible for the artistic costuming vision of the show.  This person has the unique opportunity of using existing inventory, creating new pieces, and helping cast members find some basic pieces for their costume.  

​​​​​​​Costumer Responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively with the director to create costume vision for the show. 
  • Uses RTP costume inventory when possible, keeping record of where the costumes are stored. 
  • Works with volunteers to build costumes and alter costumes. 
  • Communicates with cast (with assistance from stage manager) about their costume responsibilities (in written and verbal form), assists with acquiring items if needed, and checks all cast members for these items by the deadline on production calendar. 
  • Assists by assembling necessary costumes for publicity photos early in the rehearsal process. 
  • Keeps record of who costumes are assigned to. 
  • Attends dress rehearsals to make adjustments and repairs/alterations as needed and is available for repair during the run. 
  • Collects and checks in all costumes at end of run, coordinates volunteers for washing/cleaning (in collaboration with production manager) and returns all costumes to their original storage location. 
  • Turns in a list of any new costumes built for this show and leaves them on the rack to be added to the inventory.
  • Stays within allocated costume budgets; communicates with production manager about any budgetary concerns
