Seeking Music Director – HIRING ASAP

Respond by:
The Trial of Henry the Navigator

We are putting up an open book Workshop of our local, original folk rock opera about the origins of racism, and we are looking for a Music Director who is an ear player (can work without scores) to teach the songs to the singers. We would love for you to join the team!

Hiring for the Following Positions

Music Director ($2000 stipend):

We are looking for a Music Director to teach vocal parts to between 9 and 15 singers. We have multi-track recordings of lead vocals and harmony parts, and can mix down custom mixes for each part. We will also provide hand written scores for harmony parts. Ideal candidate would have a Mac with GarageBand so they can make their own custom mixes as needed. No experience with GarageBand is needed, it’s easy to learn.

Workshop will be “open book”. The vocalists will be lined up side by side at the front of the Judson sanctuary, with microphones, music stands and open books, and will sing through the play. There will be no staging, costumes, choreography. The workshop will be open to the public, and we will invite people involved in the local musical theater scene to attend. The idea is to solicit feedback from experts in the local theater community, and to generate interest in someone putting up a fully staged production.

Time commitment:

Auditions for vocalists will be held the evening of Tuesday, August 27th.  The open book Workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, October 29th. Rehearsals are scheduled for every Tuesday evening between the auditions and the workshop, with additional/sectional rehearsals outside the Tuesday night rehearsals to be scheduled by the Music Director as needed. The Music Director would ideally start immediately to get familiar with the music, and the roles, and to participate in the auditions on 8/27. All scheduled evenings will be in the sanctuary of Judson Church, at 41st and Harriet.

October 29th at 7:00pm (workshop)
