Compensation

$20.00 per hour starting

20-30 hours per week during pre-determined weeks (20 to 30 weeks per year)

Paid time off based on anticipated hours

Paid Holidays.

Anticipated Start Date of October 2024.

Hours for this job are primarily centered around costume creation and rehearsals with four to five productions a year.

 

Job purpose

The Costume Shop Assistant is a member of the production team and will assist the Costume Supervisor in the procurement, alteration, creation, and management of costumes for the mainstage productions.

 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Work with Costume Supervisor in the acquisition of all garments and accessories needed for a production including shopping, pulling, and renting.
  • Construct and alter costumes and accessories for each production.
  • Assist the Costume Supervisor in creating and maintaining archival documents for each production which contain all information pertinent and necessary for the execution of the production.
  • Attend fittings, production meetings, photoshoots, designer run-throughs, costume load-in, technical rehearsals, and previews as needed in coordination with the Costume Supervisor.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Costume Supervisor including organizing, returns, paperwork and communicating with stage management regarding costume notes.

 

Qualifications

  • Excellent skills in altering and construction of costume garments.
  • Ability to work a varied schedule and be available for evenings and weekends at predetermined times
  • Working knowledge of where to shop in the greater Minneapolis area and the ability to research and source items via the internet.
  • Ability to communicate well with designers, performers, and other costume shop personnel.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and have a valid Driver’s License.

Working conditions

The Costume Shop Assistant will often be working on their feet in the shop or in the community. A portion of time may also be spent working on a computer.

 

Physical requirements

The Costume Shop Assistant may be required to lift up to 50 lbs periodically.
