CAST BREAKDOWN
INTO THE BURROW: A PETER RABBIT™ TALE
MIXED BLOOD’S MISSION: Using theatre to disrupt injustices, advance equity, and build community, Mixed Blood inspires the global village to create ripple effects of social change.
SYNOPSIS: Featuring beloved characters from the classic Beatrix Potter tales and a variety of original songs, this new tale encourages us to acknowledge our fears and work together to overcome challenges. As the neighborly forest animals gather in the rabbit’s den – under Mr. McGregor’s Garden – for a surprise party for Peter, the animals soon realize Mr. McGregor has terrible plans for the land around Peter’s burrow.
SEEKING:
PETER RABBIT (male-identifying. Latino or Indigenous. 20s-30s) – Adventurous by nature. After a close encounter with Farmer McGregor that nearly ended his life, he’s afraid to go back. He lost his favorite shoes and coat in that last adventure. He’d like them back. We should be aware that Peter’s dad died in an unfortunate accident while in McGregor’s garden. Peter carries trauma around the garden. Also important to know: Peter loves his friends and family dearly and would do anything for them.
BENJAMIN BUNNY (any race/gender, 20s) – Peter’s cousin. He is also an adventurous bunny—even more so—who fears nothing. He’s concerned about Peter.
JEREMY FISHER (male-identifying, any race, must also dance, 20s-30s) – a frog who loves playing in the water and getting wet. He has a weakness for butterfly sandwiches...though he’s noticed that there are fewer butterflies these days. If he lived in the human world, you might liken him to Gene Kelly. He has that same kind of flair.
MR. ALDERMAN PTOLEMY TORTOISE (Any race/gender/age)– He carries a string bag with him wherever he goes, it’s filled with found items and lettuce for snacking. He’s slow. Maybe he’s old...it’s hard to tell by looking at him. No one can recall a time when he wasn't around.
MR. PRICKLEPIN (or MRS. TIGGYWINKLE) (Mid-30s or older, able to tap dance. Any race.) – a hedgehog who works as a tailor. He (or she) can be a little reserved...he/she’s trying to breakout into the hedgehog he/she knows he/she is. Speaking of which, can we talk about his/her shoes? Seriously. Fire! And he/she loves to dance. ‘nuf said. (If played as female identifying, sub for Mrs. Tiggywinkle)
SQUIRREL NUTKIN (any race/gender, 20s) – This squirrel is a handful. Can squirrels have ADD? ‘cause this one does. Nutkin is good with riddles (asking and solving). Oh...they’re missing half their tail...but don’t mention it...they don’t like talking about it.
