Why Should I See Your Show? 'Night of the Living Dead'

Editorial
It's Halloween in July this week on Why Should I See Your Show? Historic Mounds Theatre Director Derek Dirlam rises up in support of the company's new, interactive adaptation of George Romero's Night of the Living Dead. Of all the shows going on this weekend, why should I see yours? Night of the Living Dead is not going to be your usual theater experience. Our production is closely adapted from the original George Romero and John Russo 1968 film, and we looked to capture what made the film so terrifying, even by today's standards. As you watch the film, you feel like you are right in the middle of the survivors' life and death struggle. So what we did with our show is put the audience in the middle of the action. The "stage" is actually the Mounds Theater itself. If you are in the mood for something out of the ordinary, or want to experience a horde of zombies invading a theater, or are a fan of the original film, then you should plan on seeing this play. Will I laugh? The show does have some comedic moments, but don't expect a ton of laughs. This isn't Shaun of the Dead. However some people might find themselves laughing when they suddenly come face-to-face with a zombie biker, for example. We are using a certain level of “zombie camp” with some of the zombies, in honor of the genre. Will I cry? Quite possibly. Not to reveal any spoilers (unless you've seen the film), but there are some moments where our survivors struggle through what look like no-win situations. Also, if you found yourself getting emotional during Walking Dead, then there's a good chance you will find yourself getting emotional during Night of the Living Dead as well. How can I convince my theater-hating friend to come see this show? Night of the Living Dead is not your typical stage show! If they enjoy the original film, or other scary movies, they should enjoy seeing Night of the Living Dead live – the ultimate 3-D experience! If they are afraid to come because they might be harassed by zombies, don't worry! Our zombies are trained to show restraint towards audience members. However, I wouldn't push your luck, as they are zombies, after all. Oh, and the Mounds Theater serves alcohol and popcorn. Beer, popcorn, zombies - sounds like the perfect Saturday night to me! Who shouldn't see this show? Night of the Living Dead features gunshots and various other loud noises, blackouts, violence, mild language, gory props, and of course zombies – lots and lots of zombies. So for people who don't like zombies, scary movies, or feeling like they are trapped in a theater and facing impending doom, I wouldn't recommend seeing the show.
