Away in the Basement: A Church Basement Ladies Christmas

Away in the Basement returns to the Playhouse this Christmas season! It is 1959 and the day of the Sunday School Christmas Program. The ladies of the kitchen are finishing up the goodie bags and putting final touches on the nativity pieces. Little do they know what surprises are in store for them as they are called upon to, once again, step in and save the day.
 

The year is 1959, and though Mrs. Mavis Gilmerson, Mrs. Vivian Snustad, and Mrs. Karin Engleson would be content to keep things as traditional as possible, life has other plans. A new intern from the local Bible College has some fresh ideas, and they’re not welcomed by all. Widower Pastor E.L. Gunderson is counting another holiday without his wife, but other possibilities are calling out to him—dare he answer? Teen Beverly is also ready to move on, tired of being cast as the Virgin Mary year after year. In the midst of all these changes we find the ladies of the church, reminiscing about Christmas Programs past, filling up goodie bags, perfecting the nativity pieces, and turning old bathrobes into a wardrobe fit to attire all of Old Bethlehem. The Christmas Program might not go off without a hitch, but with their good-humored spirits and (relatively) steady hands at the helm, the show will go on!
