Biography

Gaia Mencagli is a Danish-Italian theatre artist who moved to the heart of Minneapolis in late 2018 to intertwine her roots with a new community as an educator, creator, and actress. Recently she was on tour with The National Theater for Children and currently she is one of the directors for the school program ACT! led by Ashland Production.

She completed her degree at Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theatre in California, and previously studied in Denmark – Vox Viva, Move´n´Act, and the Danish Folk School RyHøjskole – and in Italy – with the theater company “Tutti in Scena”, directed by Pier Maria Checchini.

The desire to be in an international artistic environment drew her to Northern America in 2015. Now after discovering more of the theatre she wants to make – playful, imaginative, explorative, physical, genuine, in an ensemble or solo, engaged in a dialogue with the people – she is excited to give life to old and new stories and let them fly out of their nest!

Next steps on the road  are Human Combat Chess in June and her solo show It's Red! the 2nd weekend of July at Open Eye Theater.
