Mark Monfils, Freelance Director most recently directed A Soirée for Lafayette, a theater + musical performance extravaganza in Bethesda and at the Peale Museum in Baltimore, MD with Really Spicy Opera.  For the Holiday season of 2024, he will return to friends at River City Theater Company (RCTC) to direct A Crow River Christmas featuring holiday songs and readings.  For the Holiday seasons of ’23 and ’22, Mark turned to the challenges of staging two radio plays:  It’s a Wonderful Life and Yes, Virginia There is a Santa Claus for RCTC.

Previously with RCTC, Mark directed The Curious Savage; two shows for the 2017 Minnesota Fringe Festival: Thor Jurassic Park and Songs for a Post Apocalyptic World.  Previously he directed Game of Thrones: The Musical for Really Spicy Opera at the 2016 Minnesota Fringe Festival with remounts for the Honolulu & Maui Fringe Festivals and the Tampa Fringe Festival.  Also with RCTC he directed The Odd Couple ~ Female Version, Everybody Loves Opal and after re-honing his large-cast production skills with a 50+ member cast in RCTC’s Cinderella, he directed 80+ eager players for an outlandish rollicking musical production of Babes in Toyland for the 2014 Winter show at Rosetown Playhouse in Roseville, MN.

Around the metro area Mark directed Blithe Spirit for River Valley Theater Company (RVTC) – and his spooky treatment of Dracula for RVTC evoked nightly gasps from the audience.  A few years back he directed All Wrapped Up 2012 for Minnesota PerformDance Productions at The Cowles Center, Guys and Dolls for Rockford High School and Born Yesterday for The Barn Theatre in Willmar, MN.  Mark has directed over 60 plays, musicals, and shows, and acted in or stage-managed another 35 more in the metropolitan area, out-state, and nationally over the past 50+ years.
