THE MODERN REP seeks Actors’ Equity Association and non-union actors for two upcoming productions, Anton Chekhov’s THE SEAGULL and Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s THE BITTER TEARS OF PETRA VON KANT. All roles being cast are female; auditions are open to performers of all gender identities willing to play female-presenting roles.
Auditions will be held on July 21 from 2pm to 8pm and July 22 from 12pm to 8pm; callbacks as needed will be held on Friday, July 24. Auditions and callbacks will be held at THE MODERN REP’s space at 901 North 3rd Street, Suite 156, Minneapolis 55401.
EDIT 7/1 All slots are now full. To be added to the waiting list, please email [email protected].
Please prepare either one longer monologue or two short contrasting pieces; audition material should be under five minutes total. Both plays have a heightened text quality -- think Strindberg, Fornes, Williams, Wilson. Please do not prepare hyper-contemporary text. No Shakespeare.

ABOUT THE MODERN REP
Reimagining the canon for a contemporary audience, THE MODERN REP believes that classic texts are not relics to be preserved, but living works meant to be interrogated, disrupted, and brought vividly into the present moment.
Our productions strip away tradition, creating bold, intimate experiences that foreground language, actor, and audience. We stage classics with a focus on immediacy, clarity, and a sense of shared event.
At THE MODERN REP, the past is not distant; it is urgent, messy, and alive. By engaging directly with these texts through a modern lens, we aim to uncover what still resonates, what challenges us, and what demands to be reexamined now.
