Rosetown Playhouse Seeks Staff for Fall Youth Musical (Stage Manager, Assistant Stage Manager, Production Manager, Costumer, Propsmaster)

Rosetown Playhouse is hiring for our winter youth show. Dedicated to building community & creating theater, Rosetown is looking for "outside the box" thinkers who are good collaborators and enjoy working with youth ages 8-17. 

 

Seeking: Stage Manager, Assistant Stage Manager, Production Manager, Costumer, Propsmaster (details below).

 

Important Dates:

Auditions will take place in the second half of September.

Rehearsals will be scheduled for Mon-Thursday evenings in two-hour increments, beginning October 2026. 

Performances at Roseville Area Middle School between December 3rd and December 14th.

General Production Team Member Responsibilities

  • Attend weekly production meetings (scheduled based on availability)
  • Communicate with production team members via email and in person
  • Willingness to adapt to changing needs throughout rehearsal process

 

STAGE MANAGER (Stipend $850-$1000 DOQ)

The stage manager plays a critical role in cast management and bringing together the production.  This person should be an excellent communicator and relationship builder, possess strong detail orientation, and exhibit collaboration skills.  The stage manager serves as the main communicator between production team and cast, including parents/guardians.  We have many existing resources and systems that a stage manager can make use of.

Stage Manager Responsibilities

  • Creates auditions materials
  • Runs auditions
  • Manages all cast data through casting process
  • Main point of communication for cast members and their families throughout the show process (includes weekly email communications, answering emails daily, etc.)
  • Prepares, copies, and distributes all cast materials
  • Organize and share production resources
  • Creates schedule (in consultation with directors)
  • Monitors all rehearsals, arriving early and staying late to answer questions and set up/tear down
  • Organizes crew members for performances
  • Distributes cast survey (survey provided by Board of Directors)
  • Contribute to positive attitude at rehearsals and performances

     

ASSISTANT STAGE MANAGER (Stipend $650-$750 DOQ)

  • Assist stage manager in their tasks
  • Attends required rehearsals (not all rehearsals--exact ones to be determined in conjunction with SM based on rehearsal schedule)
  • Assists SM with the compilation of cast materials as needed
  • Assists with auditions (if possible)
  • Assists with rehearsal set-up and clean-up when at rehearsal
  • Assists with rehearsals as needed (i.e. blocking notes, lines, videos etc.)
  • Helps keep cast members on track at rehearsals in positive and effective ways
  • In charge of props for rehearsals and performances, including creating props lists and supervising packing/setting up of props each night
  • Assists with move to Como on the morning of July 9; attends rehearsal that afternoon
  • Assists with set-up and tear down of all performances
  • Works "backstage" at all performances
  • Contributes to positive attitude at rehearsals and performances
  • Assists with strike on July 19
  • Completes End-of-Show Checklist

 

 

PRODUCTION MANAGER (Stipend $750-$850 DOQ )

The production manager is a major liaison with rehearsal spaces, organizes volunteers, and runs the front-of-house on performances.   This person should have excellent communication, relationship building, and collaboration skills.  We have many existing resources and systems that a production manager can make use of.

 

Production Manager Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and runs weekly production team meetings (includes sending out notes afterwards and getting meetings scheduled)
  • Act as liaison with ISD 623 and other rehearsal spaces
  • Reserve truck/trailer for set moving
  • Coordinate postering day
  • Coordinate t-shirt orders
  • Gather information for show program, getting information to program designer (in consultation with board members)
  • Solicits volunteers for the show; creates volunteer schedule 
  • At performances, coordinate volunteers and front of house activities (including lobby set-up)
  • Help with general concerns of cast and family
  • Attend select all-cast rehearsals (TBD with directors and stage manager) to assist when needed
  • Create show file at completion of performances
  • Contribute to positive attitude at rehearsals and performances



 

COSTUMER (Stipend $650-$800 DOQ)

The costumer is responsible for the artistic costuming vision of the show.  This person has the unique opportunity of using existing inventory, creating new pieces, and helping cast members find some basic pieces for their costume.  

Costumer Responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively with the director to create costume vision for the show. 
  • Uses RTP costume inventory when possible, keeping record of where the costumes are stored. 
  • Works with volunteers to build costumes and alter costumes. 
  • Communicates with cast (with assistance from stage manager) about their costume responsibilities (in written and verbal form), assists with acquiring items if needed, and checks all cast members for these items by the deadline on production calendar. 
  • Assists by assembling necessary costumes for publicity photos early in the rehearsal process. 
  • Keeps record of who costumes are assigned to. 
  • Attends dress rehearsals to make adjustments and repairs/alterations as needed and is available for repair during the run. 
  • Collects and checks in all costumes at end of run, coordinates volunteers for washing/cleaning (in collaboration with production manager) and returns all costumes to their original storage location. 
  • Turns in a list of any new costumes built for this show and leaves them on the rack to be added to the inventory.
  • Stays within allocated costume budgets; communicates with production manager about any budgetary concerns

 

PROPS MASTER (Stipend $600)

The Props and Scenic Manager is responsible for the props vision of the show. A bare bones production with no major set pieces, this combined role will use props and smaller scenic pieces to create the world for our actors. This person has the unique opportunity of using existing inventory, creating new pieces, and helping cast members find some basic pieces.

 

  • Meets with director prior to first rehearsal to understand director’s vision of the show
  • Checks in weekly with director and/or stage manager for props updates
  • Provides all props by deadline agreed upon by director
  • Uses existing prop inventory whenever possible
  • Designs, acquires, builds, and/or rents appropriate props for all cast
  • Coordinates volunteers to help build props (if needed)
  • Works with stage manager to communicate with cast about any props they can help with
  • Works with stage manager to communicate with cast about use of props or any props changes
  • Adjusts, maintains, and repairs props during run of show
  • Collects all props at end of run
  • Returns all props to appropriate storage (or renter)
  • Updates props inventory at end of show, including which props have been altered from existing collection and what has been added to inventory
  • Stays within allocated props budgets; communicates with production manager about any budgetary concerns
