The Production Manager will oversee the planning and execution of Theater Mu’s summer production Stop Kiss. We are reviewing applications on a rolling basis.

Stop Kiss will rehearse at Theater Mu Studio (755 Prior Ave N, #107, Saint Paul, MN 55104). The technical rehearsals and performance venue will take place at Gremlin Theatre (550 Vandalia Street, Suite 177, Saint Paul, MN 55114).
 

Responsibilities:

PRODUCTION STAFF MANAGING

  • The Production Manager is responsible for managing production designers, creating production calendars, and facilitating production meetings.
  • Source and hire all run crew, overhire, production staff (including house management), and other hourly positions as necessary for the Production. Hiring must be done with the approval of the Managing Director.
  • For STOP KISS, provide support to the Artistic Director in coordinating artist auditions, and conducting outreach to designers, stage managers, and other creative personnel.
  • Manage contracting for designers. Track hours worked for all hourly production staff; submit a production payroll to Managing Director.
  • Respond to any concerns about pay, schedule, policy, communication, or working environment; coordinate with Managing Director to ensure a respectful, equitable, and care-centered workplace.
  • Schedule and facilitate post-production reflections among Mu staff and production collaborators.

TECHNICAL EXPERTISE & VENUE LIAISONING

  • In all design areas, ensure the smooth transition from conceptualization to fabrication. Coordinate with designers and technicians to identify and meet their needs for materials, time, and labor.
  • Collaborate with the Managing Director to project appropriate material and labor expenses for each project.
  • Serve as support for front of house and box office staff. Collaborate with the house manager to set up the house and ensure the house is ready for previews and opening.
  • Serve as support to the Mu Staff in arranging all accessibility offerings, including hiring interpreters, audio describers, and supertitle offerings.
  • Liaise with the venue and ensure Mu is following all venue rules.
  • Plan and manage load-in and strike.

EXPENSE TRACKING

  • In conjunction with the Office Manager and Managing Director, coordinate designer budgets to ensure all budget goals are met, and reconcile all production expenses for each project.


The Production Manager is responsible for attending each design meeting, production meeting, and technical rehearsal of the Play, and will remain in residence until Opening Night of each project. Theater Mu operates under an Actors’ Equity Association SPT-6 contract and is committed to 5-day workweeks before tech with no 10-hour tech rehearsals.

 

Desired Qualifications

  • 1+ years production management experience at the SPT level.
  • Background in stage management or technical direction.
  • Strong working knowledge of all areas of theatrical design, with particular emphasis on scenery and lighting.
  • Ability to read a light plot, sound plot, and ground plan.
  • Leadership skills, ability to manage a team and delegate tasks to appropriate departments.
  • Detail-oriented individual with excellent organizational skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work with a large collaborative team.
  • Effective time-management skills, ability to set and meet project deadlines and the enforce the deadlines of others.
  • Flexibility, multi-tasking and problem-solving skills.
